Dry & itchy skin on mounjaro

Anyone else?

Ive been taking mounjaro for about three months and the last week or so my skin has been unbearably itchy in places - mainly my back, sometimes my stomach or top of arms. I know it’s caused by rapid weight loss. I’m losing around 1lb a week. My back comes up in big red welts where I’ve used a backscratcher.
I’ve tried itch cream, doesn’t really help. Now trying a good body moisturiser which is a bit better but I need someone to put it on my back as I can’t reach! Which is fine as long as I’m at home and DH is here.
My skin is also really dry all over. So putting the moisturiser on every day.

Just having a whinge really, wondered if it was happening to anyone else or if anyone has any miracle cures! I do take an antihistamine tablet when I remember but they take a while to kick in.

Sometimes excess itching is to do with liver problems. Might be best to contact your provider/GP.

I’ve already spoken to my prescriber, hence using the moisturiser and antihistamine as recommended and trying to increase my water intake.
I just wondered if I am alone in this.

Not seen it mentioned on any forums, no. And I'm sorry, but I wouldn't describe 1lb a week over three months as fast weightloss - more a very normal and steady weightloss.

Have a look at spray moisturises for your back - saves trying to reach all the difficult bits.

Have you considered trying an *alternative antihistamine for the itching?

JimothyHalpert · 18/05/2025 15:42

Sorry @NeedForSpeed I’m losing around 1lb a week now but I have lost about 30lbs in the last three months - I should’ve clarified. A lot of it is where I have stretch marks.
I didn’t know spray moisturiser existed so will look into that, thank you!
This antihistamine works, it just takes about half an hour.

I have exceedingly dry skin but it definitely didn't get drier on MJ. I have however discovered that stretch marks get itchy as they're "unstretched" /healing but it did stop after a couple of weeks (I used even more moisturiser than usual until it did)

If you back is bothering you make sure you're having warm rather than hot showers as it strips the oils from your skin.

Thank you @Arglefraster that sounds positive, so hopefully this won’t last very long then! Fingers crossed! That makes sense about the stretch marks.
