Terrible mouth ulcers on Mounjaro

OuchouchouchOUCHULCERS · 13/05/2025 19:26

As my user name suggests - terrible mouth ulcers! Has anyone else experienced this and did it get better or am I going to have to stop taking it?

5 weeks in, 11 pounds down and otherwise going well. I’ve developed multiple (probably about 30-50) very small but painful mouth ulcers.

im wondering if I’m deficient in something - I’m now taking a multivitamin and B12 but no significant improvement over the last 3 days…

the trouble is it’s so sore I can barely eat anything so I doubt that is helping! Regular paracetamol, ibuprofen and numbing spray but I’m miserable and in a lot of pain.

any success stories of this being a transitory thing? Thanks!

Do you vape or smoke?

financialmuddle · 13/05/2025 19:28

I think you need to try to speak to a GP about this.

OuchouchouchOUCHULCERS · 13/05/2025 19:29

I do not vape or smoke, and never have, so there is that!

You might be quite right re a GP, although I was hoping to try and do some self-help measures before bothering them and seeing if it resolved first. It’s just sore!

Try bongela and aloclair.

But, it could be anything causing these sores best get a swab from GP for bacteria and fungus and send it off. My GP lets you do a swab and send it before an appointment. Does your GP have e consult?

NeedForSpeed · 13/05/2025 19:35

I've not seen that mentioned on any MJ chats on Reddit or anywhere else.... I'd see the pharmacist first. Then probably GP.

thedeadneverdie · 13/05/2025 19:39

Have you stopped drinking alcohol? I got ulcers after giving up alcohol. I wasn’t an alcoholic but a 4 night wine drinker.

piehj · 13/05/2025 19:40

Ulcers can be a sign of low iron levels, are you eating a balanced diet?

KitsyWitsy · 13/05/2025 19:41

I don't think that's to do with the MJ. Better see your GP.

Tooty78 · 13/05/2025 19:44

I take two L Lysine tablets, when I feel one is starting and it does stop them in it's tracks.
Also dissolve soluble paracetamol in warm water, 'swish' it around your mouth then hold the liquid over the sore spot where the ulcer is.

I’m not drinking much but I wasn’t before either (a couple of glasses a week of wine max)

it’s all very strange!

Hi
So, ive been on Mounjaro for 4 weeks. I currently have 6 mouth ulcers. I am prone to them. It seems my whole family are. However, I have never experienced anything like this before. They are coming up almost daily, sometimes 2 or 3 a day.
Ive started a multivitamin and trying to eat more. I think maybe im run down. I was drinking 2 litres of water but the last couple of weeks, I may have dropped the ball a bit. The only other thing is that when I first started taking Mounjaro I was off work. Im a night shift worker, and found that working nights on Mounjaro is no easy task.
I am at the point of thinking i need to come off for a few weeks to allow my mouth to heal.
I have seen a post on reddit about mouth ulcers and Mounjaro. I think there are more people suffering with this than is widely known.

Phunkychicken · 25/05/2025 16:17

hmmm, not on wli but read today about Ozempic teeth related to low saliva levels so it could possibly be something similar triggering ulcers?

Marchintospring · 25/05/2025 16:22

I’ve been getting them since moving up to 7.5ml. I haven’t’ had any in years,
I wondered about the saliva thing as I am waking at night again and thought it might be sleep apnea/snoring. Or low iron.

Daftada12 · 25/05/2025 16:33

There is definitely something going on. Im paying extra special care on my mouth now. I noticed my teeth were getting sore too. Ive never had that before either. Ive bought a mouthwash that had some reviews about improving mouth ulcers. Since starting that the sore teeth have stopped. I think maybe I need to go hardcore with the water drinking. Multivitamins and some extra calories on night shifts. Then see what happens.

Phunkychicken · 25/05/2025 17:09

xylitol gum might be worth a try? Gum room keep saliva flowing and xylitol helps rebuild teeth

Daftada12 · 25/05/2025 17:43

Yes, that's deffo worth a try. Good idea !!

Vivienne1000 · 25/05/2025 17:49

Could you have hand, foot and mouth?

Daftada12 · 25/05/2025 19:40

I dont think so, but i could look into it.

Ouchmouthtoo · 26/05/2025 16:12

Hi! I have been on zepbound (same med) for almost 4 months now. Up until I started the 7.5mg I had not experienced any mouth ulcers but right now my mouth is sooooooo angry! I have many on my tongue and roof of mouth. I’m going to use my last 7.5mg shot this week and then request from my doc to go back down to 5mg to see if that helps at all. I’m down 33 pounds so far and don’t have any other symptoms so would hate to have to stop

MyTealLeader · 30/08/2025 21:26

I have been on Mounjaro for 2.5 months and have barely lost a stone. None of the beneficial effects seem to be happening with me, maybe because I’ve always exercised and had a good wholefood diet, I just ate too much. The most significant and notable experience has been a mouth and throat full of excruciating ulcers. They’re so painful I’ve decided the minimal gain is not worth the misery and will be weaning myself off from next round. I can’t believe I am the only person to have this experience with Mounjaro and am concerned over longer term effects from a compromised mouth biome. I’d be interested to hear others’ experiences with un-registered side effects or minimal weight loss. Such a shame, so much hope and such a disappointment.

FurForksSake · 30/08/2025 21:31

I don’t think there is any expectation to lose weight on tne minimum dose, some people are early responders but a lot of people don’t lose weight until they are on the higher doses.

the mouth ulcers could be a side effect or to do with nutrient deficiencies or being run down.

berrycm · 13/11/2025 17:50

Just wondering if you found any relief. What did the doctor say....

OuchouchouchOUCHULCERS · 13/11/2025 21:22

They went down after a few days! I actually think it was hand foot and mouth (caught from my daughter, obviously!) but severe as I was run down and probably vitamin deficient.
