Spooked by MJ ‘side effects’ stories. Are there good stories too?

I’m going to start MJ next week but was just reading some of the posts on horrendous side effects. Sorry for everyone who’s had such a rough time!

Does anyone have done good stories, e.g mild to no side effects? Or something that passed pretty quickly as your body adjusted? I think I need to read some positive things before I’m tempted to jack it in!

Yes. I get a metallic taste in the mouth. Terrible lager hangovers. But not much else. dH reports nothing. Nothing that’s terrible.

SilenceInside · 09/05/2025 23:38

I’ve had two instances of gastric side effects (D&V), once a couple of weeks into 5mg, possibly triggered by eating something dodgy/off which resolved after a couple of days. Then again at 7.5mg, but quickly resolved as well. Then nothing for the last 7 or 8 months and ongoing. Just lots of consistent weight loss.

Neverplayleapfrogwithmrpipes · 10/05/2025 00:07

I have had no gastrointestinal issues apart from some mild sulphur burps. I have lost 5.5 stone. Other than having a chooky neck now! I thoroughly recommend it!

be sensible and don’t eat oily foods and stay off anything fizzy!

YeahNahWhal · 10/05/2025 05:00

No real side effects at all! Prone to constipation if I skip the pysillium and water, but not horrendously so. Positive one is that my periods are more regular than they have ever been in 30 years of having them.

TidyDancer · 10/05/2025 05:18

I’ve had hardly any side effects since starting last August.

One incident of relatively standard stomach ache after eating a rich-ish truffly chocolate thing around Christmas time but that passed quite quickly and one urgent trip to the toilet having eaten a barbecue flavour vegetarian meat substitute.

Other than that, I’ve felt colder than usual sometimes, had the metallic taste in my mouth very occasionally and I’ve noticed I don’t sleep that well the night I do the jab.

My advice would be to not move up the doses too quickly if you don’t need to (I’m on my second 7.5mg pen and I’ve been doing this just over 8 months now) and eat as healthy as you can, focussing on protein and fibre. That said, I have certainly had ‘treats’ along the way including takeaways, crisps and chocolate (etc) and still no change in side effects. You can’t be ‘good’ all the time is my philosophy.

spanieleyes · 10/05/2025 05:24

No side effects at all apart from one short bout of diarrhoea on week 2. I’m still on 5mg after 4 months and don’t feel the need to step up yet. I’m losing a steady 2 -3 pounds a week, which all adds up!

Titasaducksarse · 10/05/2025 05:55

No bad side effects and I'm 4.5 months in. I'm still on 5mg and taken the step up slowly in dosage.
If I have eaten too much/too rich I've had a few occasions of waking up with reflux about 4am but that's it.

Stepfordian · 10/05/2025 05:56

Other than when I first started I did feel quite cold, but I just put a jumper on and I was fine, no side effects at all, I’m at week 6 and I’m on 5mg now. I make a point of drinking plenty of water every day which I think helps avoid side effects.

I think people only write about it when they’ve had side effects, but if they don’t then they don’t write about it so it seems like everyone has side effects!

Willowy1982 · 10/05/2025 06:44

No bad side effects for me and I've been on it 9 months. I feel cold but that's about it! No gastro issues at all. It's been really easy and worked so well for me.

Appalonia · 10/05/2025 07:01

My hairdresser was hospitalised for a week on an antibiotic drip because of these injections. It had affected her liver, kidney and she now has to have her gall bladder removed. She was in her 60s though, so don't know if her age had anything to do with it. If you're gonna do it, please do it with proper medical supervision. It's not for everyone. Sorry, but her story really alarmed me and I think pp should be aware of the possible serious complications.

ScoffingWaters2000 · 10/05/2025 07:06

I’m on week 13 and am just slowly going up to 7.5mg, (I started the 7.5mg pen with 6mg by counting clicks)
The only negative side effects that I have had were on day 2 of week 1 where I felt achey like I was coming down with something but this passed overnight and I’ve had the same aches on my last jab (I’d moved from 5mg to 6mg),
I’ve also had.a bit of constipation when I was on 5mg (fixed with prunes and milled flaxseed in Greek yoghurt for breakfast),
feeling more cold than usual a few days after each jab too.
However, all the good ‘side effects’ completely outweigh the ‘bad’ for me:
weight loss of 26lbs, no interest in alcohol, I’ve lost 4 inches from my waist and 3 from my chest and hips, eating small healthy portions of food, not interested in takeaways and am rejoining the gym. My OH is also on it and has lost nearly 2 stone in 10 weeks just on 2.5mg, he is like a new man and has refound his mojo!
Drink loads of water, try to avoid really fatty foods and focus on protein rich foods when you’re on it, I really hope it’s a fantastic journey for you and as in a PP, people often post questions about negative side effects and easy to feel nervous when reading but there are so many folk on WLIs who are having positive experiences. 😊

Everyone getting it privately has to go through an online pharmacy. Was she not doing that?

Any medication might have severe side effects for a small minority of people. I'm allergic to penicillin, but that's a life-saving drug for many.

doodleschnoodle · 10/05/2025 07:10

No major side effects here, and I’ve lost 5+ stone and am now off it.

The rapid weight loss did wake up my gallstones (had them already but they weren’t symptomatic) so I need to get my gallbladder out but that was likely to happen however I lose the weight unfortunately.

DH has had zero side effects and is 100lbs down.

Herewegoagain80 · 10/05/2025 07:17

I’m only in the 2nd week but have had no side effects so far. I was so nervous to take the first injection, I practically gave myself heart palpitations as I was plucking up the courage to put the needle in. It’s a scary decision to make when you hear about some of the side effects other people have had. There are lots of people who have had no/minimal side effects too but that doesn’t grab your attention as much as the stories of people floored with D&V for 5 days. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Clitmandu · 10/05/2025 07:18

Dh started mounjaro four months ago and the only side effect for him was really feeling cold.

I was too scared to try because of the side effects.

What is good though is that I have lost 1.5 stone without really trying due to the lack of junk food in the house.

girljulian · 10/05/2025 07:18

I never had any side effects. Was on it for three months, lost the weight I needed to lose, came off it.

SuperSange · 10/05/2025 07:42

When I first started, I had occasional reflux. That’s nearly a year ago and nothing since. It’s like birth stories, you’ll never hear the good ones.

troppibambini6 · 10/05/2025 07:43

I’ve been on it 9 months and lost 4.5 stone. Occasionally I have sulphur burps, constipation sometimes but other than that absolutely fine.
it’s been amazing for me.

SweetChilliGirl · 10/05/2025 07:44

I've had barely any side effects. I'm sleeping more deeply, which is nice, although I am more tired in the evenings. And I'm a bit colder. But other than that, nothing. It will be my fourth jab tomorrow and I've lost 12lb so far, from a starting weight of 12st 6lb. I'm sticking with 2.5 for my next pen as I'm getting good enough suppression and virtually no side effects.

Doggymummar · 10/05/2025 07:48

Nothing I would consider debilitating or change my plans for. Currently a bit constipated so farting a lot. Yesterday sulphur burps, the cold I lived with anyway. Occasionally need an afternoon nap. But I always enjoyed them anyway. Six stone down and a whole different person.

bert3400 · 10/05/2025 07:51

Been on it over a year. Only constipated when I move up a dose but it settles down . Don't feel great when I e eaten really fatty foods so avoid those . It's the best thing ever

HansHolbein · 10/05/2025 08:32

Been on it since October. No side effects except being cold.

MJalltheway · 10/05/2025 08:39

I've been on it since January, no side effects really at all. I had one instance of feeling quite queasy for a day when I'd just moved up to 5mg but that quickly disappeared and hasn't been back. I've lost 14kg so far, it's been absolutely amazing.
you do need to be prepared to put the work in on your diet and exercise though - focus on protein and fibre. I've completely overhauled what I eat, I do intermittent fasting, have hugely cut carbs, cut out UPFs and stopped snacking. I workout at least 4 times a week (previously did nothing!) to preserve muscle mass.

Glohc · 10/05/2025 08:40

Lost quite a bit of hair that’s growing back now. Also lost over 4 stone and haven’t felt this good in years.

Good luck!

HamieandHave · 10/05/2025 08:49

I have done 6 months in the lowest dose and had no side effects.
