Struggling on days 5-6 each week

I'm 7 weeks I to mounjaro and have lost 12 pounds which I'm really pleased with.

However I'm really struggling on days 5-6/7 each week. The food noise is loud and suppression is disappearing. I know mj has a half life of 5 days so this makes sense as by day 5 there's only half the dose left but I'm so hungry!

It happened around weeks 3-4 of 2.5 pen so Ive done 2 weeks on 3.75 and it's the same these last 2 weeks aswell

Due to jab this afternoon (going up to 5) but I was really hoping to not have to go beyond 5 as it's getting expensive 😔

Also I'm aware that when I eventually come off it I'll have to get used to all this food noise etc and not give in like I am now. On my break in work ATM and just had a packet of crisps and a packet of sweets 😔

All advice appreciated about getting through the last 48 hours before jab day without wanting to eat everything in sight!

No advice sorry but wanted to say I hear you! I was naughty and jabbed a day earlier this week. I just didn't see the point of waiting around when I am going to bed hungry and waking up hungry and being hungry throughout the day. It is only ever on day 5-6 for me too

You could try allowing for it, so eating less on the days just after the injection and then allowing yourself more calories on days 5 and 6. Rather than reach for impulsive snacks, plan in healthier snacks for those days.

2.5 is not a full therapeutic dose for a lot of people, this is understandable. You may find it very different on 5mg. Download Shotsy if you don't have it, to understand the levels in your system.

I was told many years ago that if I was hungry to have a glass of water. If I still felt hungry 15mins later then it was ok to eat. No idea if this is good advice but it can't hurt

@Fatmumslim01 your username made me laugh! I’m the same. I’ve went up doses as it was getting to the point where it just “stopped working” after 2 days! I don’t really have any advice but as PP said, maybe look at your weekly calories rather than daily ones. On my hungry days I eat normal like 1,500 - 1,800 and the days where the suppression is high i’m managing fine on 500-800. The food noise is the big thing for me though, MJ switches it off completely when it works, I wish the effects lasted longer

When thinking about injection day are you able to time it in the week so those 2 days fall at a point in the week you can best handle them? Days when you are busier or days when you have least stress for example, depending on what makes you more likely to over-eat.

Mumof1andacat · 10/05/2025 07:22

Look over your diet and prep for those days. You might need to include more protein on those days to keep you full

My approach is to not have stuff in the house/don't take crap food to work. You can't eat it if it's not there. Keep busy. Go for a long walk. Go for a swim. Do a gym class. Again you can't eat in a pool, or if you are in the middle of nowhere on a hike.

I appreciate it's hard to maintain this all the time, hence being on MJ myself. But, if it's just a couple of days, I would schedule my hikes/classes for when I know I get hungry as too busy to think about food then

I track my calories as well. I feel more accountable then and it just stop me just putting rubbish in my mouth. I look for low calorie alternatives to try and stay within my limits. I just had a couple of days of high hunger myself, and only went over by a couple of hundred calories, and actually stayed within allowance when taken as an average over the week
