Tier 3 weight loss- anyone?

Hello, I’ve been struggling with my weight a lot over the last 5 years. Found out recently I have PCOS and hormones all over the place. I have just been accepted into a tier3 program that offers injections on prescription- is anyone else doing this via the NHS? Let me know how you are doing. I’m excited and also nervous but so so ready to be a much lower weight.

Hi, I qualified for the oviva tier 3 weight loss program but my gp won’t refer as she says the nhs has no funding and won’t pay. I argued back and forth between them and oviva and ive given up. Was already paying for it myself and will carry on. I’m interested in your experience and hope you are successful in getting it.

How frustrating! Is it a postcode thing? My GP was open to the referral thankfully but I know some surgeries have different cultures/opinions- which is not fair!

I suspect it’s a postcode lottery yes. Please keep us updated, will be interesting to see how your journey goes.

Wow our area won't refer to Oviva. I think they're using a right to choose "loophole" currently. And as far as I'm aware are the only ones doing it.

I our area NHS isn't doing it through tier 3. They will be rolling out the wli but it's heavily restricted to high bmi and you have to have 4 relevant conditions (not including asthma/mobility but more like heart problems or diabetes)

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 03/05/2025 11:22

Fantastic you're doing it on the NHS though. I'd love to hear how it goes and what their prescribing pattern is!!

YellowTassels · 03/05/2025 19:17

Thank you! I’ll keep you posted! I qualify due to bmi of 39 and having PCOS. Oviva requested a fresh blood test so did that yesterday, I should hear from them within 2 weeks apparently

4! That seems excessive. Hopefully it will be easier as time goes on, it doesn’t work to restrict it so much (though I know ££ is why!)

Yup it's NHS recent prescribing criteria (attached).

You're incredibly lucky to get it through Oviva! And I am now keen to follow how it goes! (I'm having to pay but had been pursuing NHS route for a few years as was leading to bariatric and hoping not to now! It's been worth it though)

Tier 3 weight loss- anyone?
FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 03/05/2025 19:24

Tier 3 is usually the prep for tier 4 (bariatric)

Hey! Thought I’d just update. Oviva only prescribes wegovy, I’m on week 5 and I’ve lost 12lbs

A friend has just started this and yes, it is a post code lottery. She is in Southampton and the trust there offers surgery but not injections.
Utter madness.
Maybe it will catch up with treatment options in ten years time!

Well done op. I stayed on mounjaro with today being exactly 8 months since I started and I’m now 3lbs off 6st loss. My life has completely changed. 1st 10lbs to go to goal and it actually seems achievable.
