Side effects out of nowhere- anyone else?

Started in November and my only side effects have been a day of constipation each time I go up a level. Totally manageable and only happens once each pen.

I started on 12.5 three weeks ago and on Tuesday randomly got tummy pains, nausea and diarrhoea. This has continued on and off for the past four days: it’s only a mild ache, but very uncomfortable, and enough to wake me up at night, and I’m still not able to poop solid. (sorry for TMI!)

Has anyone else had this? I’d assume it’s from going up a level but then why didn’t it kick in three weeks ago? Should I go back down to 10mg? Really hate this constant tummy ache.

I think it can take a few weeks to build up to the higher dose, hence the delay d reaction. Something g similar happened to me after a few weeks into 5 mg; I got a nasty arm rash/hives.

Interesting, thanks for replying. Did it go away? Did you ride it out or tirate back down?

I was fine until my second dose of 10mg, had 4 days of diarrhoea and vomiting undigested food. Really struggled since and now only managing 2.5mg every 2 weeks. Luckily I’m at my target weight, started in October, so using the pen I have left as a maintenance.

Nightmare! I hope that’s not me, I’m only halfway to goal!

My theory is that for some of us, as our body mass reduces the medication affects us more ( I have no research or science to back this up!)

Are you sure your not just ill? You could have just caught a bit of a tummy bug or eaten something that disagreed with you.

I've also suddenly started getting side effects after 8 months on MJ! -tiredness, feeling very chilly and IBS/diarrhoea for a day or so following my jab. @NurseySA 's theory makes sense to me!

I've lost 2.5 stone over 8 months and am titrating back down again. The side effects are bothering me a lot now and I'm tempted to go cold turkey but I've just had my last dose of 12.5 and am hoping a reduction to 10 next week will help 🤞

I had zero side effects on Mounjaro until about seven months in, when I started getting digestive issues. Eating high fat foods would set me off, and I started getting sulphur burps (usually when I don’t eat enough). I’m now just under a year in, and I still get symptoms. But it’s not been bad enough to make me stop taking it, and I’m still having great success with it.

SleepingSerpent · 25/04/2025 22:28

@NurseySA interesting, could well be right! I’ll defo drop down to 10mg I think.

@TourangaLeila I did consider this, but I’m getting the sulphur burps which I’ve not had before so I think it’s jab related sadly.

@sundaysunday2024 what a pain! Ok could be that then, I’ll defo drop back down.

@CloverPyramid i defo haven’t been eating enough this week as I’ve been crazy busy at working and going straight through lunch, so I wonder if that’s it! I focused on getting proper food in me today and will track my calories properly again.

Yes, the rash did go away. It was very unpleasant, on both arms though and lasted for about four weeks.. I didn’t associate the rash/hives with Mounjara ; I thought I had been bitten by an insect! It took awhile for the penny to drop. So I didn’t change my dosage, actually! If I had known, I would’ve probably titrated down a bit and moved up more slowly or even got scared and stopped all together. To my mind, strong side effects means that dose is too high. It’s better I think to lose more slowly and feel OK, than lose a lot of weight quickly but feel completely wretched!
