MedExpress - new tighter rules about sharing codes publicly

I've just received this email from MedExpress:

We’re writing to inform you of an urgent change to the MedExpress referral scheme Terms and Conditions.

Effective immediately, we are tightening the rules around how referral codes may be used in direct response to the evolution of regulatory guidance, particularly due to the growing visibility of weight loss treatments online. These changes are designed to protect both our business and our customers from potential enforcement action.

Please read the following carefully:

🚫 Referral codes must not be shared publicly.

This includes posting on social media, online forums, or any other public channels including review sites such as Trustpilot.

Referral codes are for private use only.

They are intended for use by close friends and family, not the general public.

🔎 We are actively monitoring public platforms.

We have introduced AI-powered tools to detect where and how codes are being shared online.

Any code found posted in public spaces will be suspended.

We will also remove any credit earned while the code was publicly shared.

Already posted your code? You have 48 hours to remove the post.

You have 48 hours to remove a social post where you have previously shared your codes. After this grace period, we will begin revoking credits linked to non-compliant posts.

This is not a decision we’ve taken lightly, but the regulatory environment is shifting and we are committed to acting swiftly to remain compliant.

We appreciate your cooperation in taking this seriously.

This is crazy. How did Med express make any money? This has been going on for a long time. I'm surprised med express didn't cap the amount people can have a long time ago. Letting people get thousands is ridiculous.

I've seen a Tiktok today from someone saying Medexpress has taken their referral credit. So they must have had a lot. Assuming Medexpress will wipe all these people's credit now regardless. If you have over £1000 it can't all be friends and family.

Did you guys get a reminder email from MedExpress today? Wondering if it’s generic or sent to select people.

I didn't get a reminder but I did get the first one, I've never used a referral code.

Who is saying that it's just friends and family? They allow 100 referrals a year that's £4000!

Pretty sure the guidance was always a friend's and family referral only. There was a big thing about not being allowed to post referral codes a while back. People would PM their codes so to follow the rules. I guess this was forgotten about somewhere along the line, but it's always been a thing.

SunnyShiner · 25/04/2025 20:54

They changed the rules. It used to be friends and family. Then it was changed to all and sundry. Then it’s been changed again. It was allowed to post it on social media. Now it’s not.

Ah ok. I've been on MJ for over a year and haven't kept up with med express so didn't realise it was a free for all now... Or was!

StrikeForever · 25/04/2025 22:50

I haven’t had a second one. I just received confirmation that my order (placed the day before the initial email on this) has been dispatched.

RosaBaby2 · 25/04/2025 23:49

My balance was £1480 is now £0 and no code thanks a mill Medexpress 🤣

They should just scrap the scheme altogether.

They have made a name for themselves in the weightloss market so now they could drop the scheme and offer competitive prices to keep customers from switching to cheaper places.

Exactly

Oh well it was an absolutely obscene amount of money to have in credits anyway. Why should you get Mounjaro for free because you managed to persuade x amount of people to sign up to take medication?

Panic over it's back.

I posted on a promo code board for weight loss injections, wasn't really doing much persuading was I?

Tbh I agree and I made £2k in referral credit across my time on Mounjaro. I only paid ~£200 in actual money. It felt too good to be true at the time considering it is prescription medication. It took the cost down to about £18 per prescription. It is obscene looking back.

This makes me think that MedExpress probably gave out tens of thousands in free medication, because what drove people to use my code was nothing to do with me personally but rather everything to do with the hype of MedExpress and weight loss injections at the time. I just posted the code itself and anonymously at that.

They are the #1 provider of Mounjaro in the UK so I wouldn’t be surprised if they have made serious money regardless. The amount of people using my code would have been £5.5k+ in cash for them.
