I have lost three stone since September, so it’s been slow and steady. I eat well, but it is around 1300-500 calories a day. I am post menopausal so it may be linked to that (I spoke to my GP re thyroid issues too, she was dismissive and said ‘it could be anything causing it’ and suggested I ‘wait six months and see.’)

I realise Mounjaro can sometimes be a cause, so if you think you had thinning hair due to WLI, did it level out? Is it now growing back? Do I only have a choice of being fat or bald?! (I am semi joking with that last one.)

I am taking a supplement which worked wonders when I had a thyroid issues 7 years ago, so I am on that again now, and semi reluctant to try too many things at once in case something works but I don’t know which one!

It's not Mounjaro, it's rapid weight loss. I've been on WLM , Inc MJ for over two years. Also peri menopause. I lost a lot of hair and have had a weave for 18 months now. I don't know if the hair is growing back as the weave covers it. I don't think supplements work 😕 but if you do, go for it.

Is three stone over 8 months ‘rapid’ though…?

I felt like I was losing a lot of hair in the first 6 months. But it settled down and I'm definitely noticing far less shedding in the shower now. Thankfully I was coming from a starting point of thick hair so it was only really me and my hairdresser who noticed.

BelindaLouisa · 22/04/2025 20:43

That’s reassuring!

My average weight loss is 1.1lb a week over 6 months and I've lost a lot of hair and shedding a lot so it can't be losing weight fast. I think its more due to my low calorie intake as I rarely every eat upto my deficit of 1200, usually its 850-1100. I have increased my protein intake and feel its helping, my shedding has halved.

I noticed my hair was thinning out and I took vitamin B which helped. My sister lives in Australia and took something called The Hairy Pill which has been amazing but I don't know if you can get it here

The Hairy Pill® | Hair Loss Treatment for Men & Women

The Hairy Pill provides a proven, patented & personalised hair loss treatment in just one pill a day. Get it in 5 minutes for less than $2.50 a day.

I started MJ in mid sept 24, in mid feb 25 I started to notice the hair loss, by mid march I was scared I was going to end up bald. To others it’s not noticeable but for me it feels like a massive change, I did have really thick hair before. Even by the end of march, I could see regrowth and started to notice the hair loss slowing. I think I am about back to normal hair loss now and hopefully it will return to normal over the next few months.

TheChosenTwo · 22/04/2025 21:47

I started at the end of October and had quite rapid loss, about 4 stones in 5 months, mostly 1-2lbs a week with the odd week of 5lbs (this coincided with the week after my period every month).
noticed a huge amount of shedding around the 4 month mark and onwards, I’m still losing a lot. Fortunately it was very thick to begin with.
I’m not taking any supplements, not convinced any of them really work based on what I’ve read - some people seem to think they work and others don’t, so much choice and I’ve got decision paralysis.
I’m also still very cold - wonder if it’s low iron or something but I eat quite an iron rich diet so no idea.

BelindaLouisa · 23/04/2025 08:42

I’ve had coldness too, nothing dramatic or unmanageable but certainly colder than normal. It sounds like the hair thing does level itself out, if it’s due to the weight / Mounjaro combo - thank goodness!

I was really sceptical about hair supplements too, as was my hairdresser, but we both did a six month trial with these for the company, along with a few other clients, and they did work. Not immediately, but a difference started to show after a few months, and we all had different issues and causes for hair thinning. Posting a link in case anyone wants a nosey. (I’m on them again now rather than the cheapo biotin, but this time having to pay - gah!)

Personally, I think that is somewhat fast, and cumulatively so. Losing 3 stone is quite a big body change over 32 weeks. As you know if weight loss is too fast the body can start to draw on muscle and hair and nails suffer, especially if lack of protein too.

But equally it could be menopause if you are that age. I lost hair during menopause. The loss stopped once I moved past it but I never regained the thickness either.

ThirdStorm · 23/04/2025 10:50

I shed lots of hair after about 3 months of weight loss, it eventually stopped. I've been taken supplements including biotin and collagen. I've had lots of regrowth now which is good. I've shed hair before so I'm not blaming WLI, I lost 5st in about 6 months which I think is rapid and likely the cause.

SpiralSister · 23/04/2025 11:13

Just to give a slightly different perspective, I’ve had thin hair and loss since pregnancy (over 30 years ago!), and have been on MJ nearly 3 months with a 2 stone loss. I have been taking a biotin supplement for 4 months as prep because I heard about the hair loss, and couldn’t bear to lose more.

Well, my hair is better than before I started MJ. I actually have new growth. It might be the supplement, it might be my massively improved diet, it might be giving up the dye. Most likely it’s a combination.

I hope this post doesn’t tempt fate! I just think the supplements are worth a try - it’s not too expensive in the scheme of things, and I like the message it sends you about taking care of yourself..

ObsidianTree · 23/04/2025 11:19

I've been on MJ over a year now. 14 months ISH. I had shedding for ages. Maybe after about 9/10 months. I was worried for a bit but my hair looks ok now. Doesn't look too thin and think it's growing again. I think you just have to accept it and let it run it's course. I do take collagen and biotin. Not sure if they helped, but take them just incase.

I don't know if my shedding came later because I was good at keeping up with my supplements like protein shakes / collagen drinks initially. Then got bored and stopped drinking them religiously.... So guess that could have caused the hair loss. Or could have just been one of those things that was going to happen anyway.

SilenceInside · 23/04/2025 11:27

I had hair loss after about 3 months on Mounjaro, having lost weight quite quickly initially. It lasted for about 3 months and is now totally resolved, and I have lots of healthy regrowth. I take a multivitamin, but don't and haven't ever taken collagen or biotin, or any other supplement aimed at hair.
