How long from ordering to receiving? And other questions.

Hi there,

I'm strongly considering mounjaro. I am 5’3, and weight 14st 4lb.

I’m considering ordering, and wondered how long it takes from ordering to receiving?

Also, I will be going on holiday in 8 weeks - can you fly with the pen? If so, how does this work?

I’ve seen people mention they’ve moved around suppliers for cheaper pricing - how does this work? Do you just have to go through a full consultation with each of them?

It will depend to some extent on your provider and what their delivery options are. Typically, you fill out the online consultation, which will include uploading photos of your figure and standing on scales. Some places will instead want to do a short video call, which will be scheduled when you apply. Once you've completed all the requirements, it will then be waiting to be approved. It's likely to be approved in 1 to 2 days, and then the order will be processed and then it will be down to the delivery company. So perhaps 3 to 5 days altogether?

Also, I will be going on holiday in 8 weeks - can you fly with the pen? If so, how does this work?

Yes, you can take it with you on a plane. You put it in hand luggage, the needles can go in hold luggage if you have it. It's just like other medication, you can check the advice from airlines about travelling with insulin pens which are very similar. Best to keep the medication box the pen comes in as it will have the named prescription label on it. You only need to take it with you if you are going for longer than a week really.

Yes, you just pick a new supplier and fill out their form and go through the consultation just as you did for the first/previous orders from your original supplier. It will ask you if you are already taking a WLI and you say yes, and state the dosage. They are likely to ask for evidence of that, so a photo of your prescription label on the medication, showing your name, date of prescription and the dosage.

No worries, @PassMeTheCookies I've been taking Mounjaro since July last year, so very happy to answer questions from anyone contemplating starting.

If you are going somewhere hot, where it may be more than 30 degrees, you may need to think about how to keep the pen cool. Once you've started using a pen, it doesn't need to be refrigerated but it does need to be kept at less than 30 degrees. You can get cooling cases, there's one called Frio, I've not used one myself but I've seen people mention them on here. Of course if you're staying somewhere with access to a fridge you can just keep it in there.

Ah that’s really helpful to know in advance, thank you. I will check out the hotel details. I think I’ve seen reviews re: the fridge. We’re going to Turkey so it may be high 20s at that point.

How much weight have you lost since July? Is there anything you’ve found that your body can’t tolerate very well whilst taking it?

I was very morbidly obese when I started, my BMI was 50 and I was 22 stone. I’m now BMI 33 and 14st 3lbs. So just about the same weight as you, but a little taller. I was someone who lost weight from the first week, and found I had a big response to the medication. I’ve stayed on the 7.5mg dose rather than continue to move up dose levels, as it’s working for me with no side effects.

My response to the medication means that I don’t want to eat anything fatty, sugary or processed carbs really. And I’m vegetarian which means I’m eating differently to most. So I don’t find there’s anything that I’m choosing to eat that upsets my stomach. I really pay attention to how I’m feeling when I’m eating, and if I’m not enjoying it then I stop.

Yes, that makes total sense with the not wanting to eat the fatty/sugary foods etc.

I think it takes a bit longer to get first approved now, I was approved in 24 hours back in November.

I would suggest taking a photo of your prescription label if you want to switch suppliers. You will need to upload that as evidence that you are already taking the medication. It can vary with different suppliers
My experience has been:
Medexpress - approved same day, pen received in 2 days
We prescribe pharmacy - approved next day, pen received in 3 days
IQ doctor - approved same day, next day delivery.

It may depend on how many people order at that time, if they require any further photos or go anything on a consultation form

You can take your pen with you, have a look at a cooling case and I believe you take it in your hand luggage 🙂🙂
