Mounjaro - swollen glands

TeacherLily · 25/03/2025 19:49

I started my Mounjaro injections yesterday at 6 pm and today I woke up with swollen glands. Not a swollen neck or a swollen throat, I can swallow perfectly fine. It’s just when I touch my neck in the glands area they’re a little bit sore. I also have a little bit of soreness to my muscles in my back.

some friends, however, have got me worried about these symptoms and I feel that my anxiety is playing up now. Just wondered if anyone had had similar. Thank you.

Do you have thyroid issues?

Do you have thyroid issues?

Not to my knowledge?
I had recent blood tests and the GP didn’t mention thyroid as a concern.

If they are still swollen tomorrow, go see a GP to be sure. It's fairly rare but it could just be an auto immune response and nothing to worry about.

Thank you. I will do. I was worried as a friend mentioned anaphylactic shock and logic goes out of the window when my anxiety kicks in.
No breathing difficulties or wheezing and I just ate a chunky salad no issue swallowing. Hopefully it’ll go down soon.

Thank you for responding.

Op I also got a slightly swollen throat after each injection and it started to be undeniably connected. I convinced myself it was a coincidence for months as the jab was working brilliantly but ultimately I think it was a minor allergic reaction. In the end i stopped because of it. I had throat surgery the year before and was unwilling to risk it.

My suggestion is to continue for another week. If the next jab exacerbates it as well, try taking an antihistamine. If that helps then you know the cause and you need to decide to continue or not.

Thank you. I’m weirdly glad it’s not just me, but I’m sorry it wasn’t for you. I’m desperate to lose some weight and this was a last resort. But equally I don’t want to put my health at risk.
Thank you for responding!

I think it's quite unusual as symptoms go. I wouldn't give up if I were you. See how the next one goes.

There's Kdo the possibility of using ozempic A it might not have the ingredients you are reacting to if it is an allergy.

If it helps. My symptoms never got worse. I just had a sore throat for 48 hours every week. I lost 2 stone and got into a healthy BMI nearly then decided at that point the trade off wasn't worth it any longer. It's been nearly a year since I started and while yes I have regained some of the weight, I feel in control and working on it myself to get to goal.

That’s great that you were able to do that. Id settle for that outcome too.

My glands haven’t worsened today, and I think they are feeling a little less sensitive to touch this evening. So perhaps it’s wearing off now. I feel a little worried about the next injection now, but perhaps by next Monday I’ll be more confident in the treatment. We’ll see!

Thanks again for confirming it didn’t get any worse for you. ☺️

Try not to worry OP. I'm pretty sure if you were having an anaphylactic shock, you'd know about it by now! They r usually pretty immediate and pretty serious and if in the neck and throat region your breathing would have been severely restricted within minutes.

It's possible these raised glands are nothing to do with mounjaro and instead you have an underlying virus or something. That's my bet. However, worth a trip to he doc just to be sure.

Hope the doc can shed some light for you and hope it's not a reaction to the drug so u r able to continue on with it, if that's what you want.

I definitely had this. For about 48 hours after my first injection. It didn’t come back with subsequent jabs. I googled it at the time and it seemed quite common on Reddit too.

ScoffingWaters2000 · 26/03/2025 16:48

I also had the sore/swollen glands scenarion the day after my very first jab, back of my neck, armpits.... it wore off within 24 hours and I haven't had it since. There are some threads on Reddit where other people were talking about it which reassured me, 5 weeks in and no other symptoms other than being a bit more constipated than usual

TeacherLily · 26/03/2025 17:37

Hi all! Thank you for the reassurance. I woke up this morning and my glands were down again, so feeling a lot better. Will stick with it I think and see what happens next week. Also glad it’s more common than I thought and stopping right away isn’t necessary.

Thank you again all!!

Thank God for Mumsnet because I’ve been having a nervous breakdown all morning! I started on Mounjaro yesterday at 18:30 and felt a bit weird when I got up. Went out for a walk and then when I returned my back, neck and shoulders were killing me. A bit flu jab like. I went in the shower and realised all my glands were swollen and tender. There is zero detail of this on the contraindications but thankfully plenty of chat about it here and on Reddit. It seems to be settling down a bit now but I’m worried this will be the reaction on every dose. I think though if the weight loss is as dramatic as some of the posts I’ve seen it’ll be worth it and I’ll be off it soon. I have 2 stone to lose.

I only had that reaction from my first dose, on my 5th now and all good 👍

This is reassuring! As the afternoon has gone on the deep ache has gone down from my neck and shoulders into my back, my arm pits and I generally feel like I coming down with something. My throat has also stated to hurt. I have not felt once though like I need to eat!
If you don’t mind me asking how much weight have you lost in your first 5 weeks?

Edited

I also felt like I was coming down with something, the back of my neck and armpits were so sore! I hope yours has started to ease now.
I’ve lost a stone so am super happy, I moved up last week from 2.5mg to 5mg, however, I was nervous about new side effects so went down the lower dose route and did 40 clicks which I think is about 3.3mg, I’ve only lost a pound this week (still a loss 🎉) and have felt a bit of hunger (not too much) the last 2 days, I’m due for my next jab tomorrow and am going to go for 50 clicks so still not the full 5mg and hope for more loss. Good luck on your MJ journey!
ps my DH started on it 2 weeks ago and has lost 10lbs, his resting heart rate has gone down to a normal average and his blood pressure is now reading within the normal range 😊

TeacherLily · 29/03/2025 11:27

I’ve been well since my initial swollen glands, but over the past few days have noticed I’m a bit achy…in places where I can get a bit achy.

So for example I have piraformis syndrome that plays up now and again, but since the jab there’s been a mild ache in that area. So it’s like my usual aches are a bit exacerbated.

It could be a virus and coincidence I guess. It also doesn’t bother me too much. I just wondered if anyone else experienced this?

Same! I injected this morning around 11am and by 10pm the same night my neck muscles were so sore aswell as the tips of my shoulders my upper thighs and back but my neck was by far the most painful to touch!
