Did anyone just stop MJ once they reached target?

I’ve been on MJ for 10 months and currently take 12.5mg. I’m just at target with one dose left in my last pen, which I intend to use. But I don’t intend to buy any more pens, because of the cost.

Everyone here talks about maintenance doses and titrating down.

Did anyone just stop (as I’m intending)? What was it like?

My friend stopped dead on 7.5mg. It took 10 days but her binge eating returned with a vengeance. It was quite scary to watch someone who had been so disciplined over the course of many months lose control so easily. She now takes 2.5mg as a maintenance dose every 8 days

That’s interesting. I don’t really think I was a binge eater before MJ. I just made bad choices a little too often and my portions were sometimes too big. My 4stone excess weight went on slowly over about 30 years. So maybe I won’t become a binge eater. I will just need to be very careful. And watch my portion sizes.

I have not missed that feeling of constantly thinking about food though. I definitely did that before MJ. It’s bloody annoying and I don’t really want it back! I guess I can live with it if I can keep control of myself.

Anyone else gone for a complete stop? How did it go?

I did, from 7.5, just over a month ago. No weight on yet. Food noise and hunger have increased gradually, which I expected, but sticking to plan.

I have one dose left in my 10mg pen and have been on mj since July 24. I'm about 0.5st from my target which gets me to the top of healthy bmi and I really don't want to buy another pen. I've lost nearly 4st so have been quite a slow loser compared to some.
I am planning on going cold turkey and my reasons for believing I can do the last little bit on my own are that I'm exercising (and enjoying it) 4-5 times a week, I never really get alot of appetite suppression even on the higher doses - have been up to 12.5mg for 1 pen but came back to 10mg as it didn't feel any different and I felt it was too expensive. I've had times of feeling ravenous whilst on mj and have resisted going mad with food so I know what hunger feels like and how to manage that.

I'm planning on going back to intermittent fasting which I have done before with good success as a means of controlling my diet. I'm hoping that will be enough.

I’ve lost 6 stone with another 2 to go but have had to stop now for a bit as I suffered a ruptured brain aneurism on Tuesday last week. I’m not sure if they would let me take it again at the moment but to be honest I need all the strength for recovery for the time being.

I’m 12 days after my last injection now and no sudden increase in appetite so far. But will be interesting to see how I get on without it when it’s all left my system.

Me! I stopped cold turkey on 7.5 on 1st Feb. The food noise came back and so did the hunger but no worse than it was before the MJ. I prepared by buying lots of salad and veg stuff and having healthy snacks in. I’m maintaining well, I’ve actually lost a few lbs and although some times I’d love to eat a cake or something, fitting into my new clothes keeps me motivated.

Good luck, you can do it x

It sounds like you'd be ok off the mj if you were generally able to control your diet. You can always give it a go and restart if it all goes wrong if you don't leave it too long

scoobs321 · 31/03/2025 11:49

@Snozzlemaid hope your recovery goes well that must have been very frightening. Can't imagine I'd be able to focus much on diet in your position
