6 months in and the worst side effects ever

just wondered if this had happened to anyone else?
I’ve been prescribed MJ for type 2 diabetes and so after one month on 2.5mg in September I’ve remained on 5mg since mid October. Weight loss has just about stalled but I’ve lost about 3 stone in total in that time which is great.

My only real side effects have been constipation and mild nausea occasionally, although I’ve had some sulphur burps since Christmas (usually if I’ve eaten something fried which I try to avoid now I’ve made the connection).

I inject on a Saturday evening so symptoms are usually worse Monday if I’m going to get any. Yesterday was hell … extreme nausea, burps like I’ve never experienced ever, sat on the toilet floor sweating overnight, never actually vomited but needed the loo lots. Hardly ate anything as I couldn’t face food,

didn’t change my injection site. Did go out for a meal on Saturday and had a small steak (not eaten steak since I started MJ). Could that have made that big a difference or is it just coincidence? Other than avoiding steak any tips for managing this if it happens again?

That sounds awful! Perhaps bad food or a virus, rather than sudden side effects? Hope it doesn’t happen to you again, whatever it was.

I don’t think I’d considered it may just be food poisoning/virus related given the nausea just felt like MJ nausea but worse! Maybe it was. Was interested to know if anyone else has experienced an increase in side effects when they haven’t changed their dose really

Maybe it was food poisoning - was the steak rare?

Could be a virus - I know a few people who’ve had a sore throat/cold type thing with bad nausea

It was pink, yes …. Not rare rare though. but maybe that’s what it was

I got an allergic reaction - arm skin rash out of the blue - week 8. So your reaction could be MJ.

It might also be temporary, as mine was. Perhaps for no special reason or could be the amount of weight you’ve lost and the effect on your body - 3 stone in 6 months is a lot unless you started at a very high weight (IMO).

If I were you I would just lower your dose for a while. Maybe go back down to 2.5 mg for a period of time or for good if you are losing weight and controlling your diabetes at that dose. As I said it may be temporary.

Steak is hard to digest normally and I've seen other comments on Facebook mounjaro groups about steak causing similar symptoms so I'd avoid it. I've always found it difficult to eat before mounjaro so wouldn't try it now.

It very well may be as simple as that … it was a fixed price menu and I could only choose from mussels, fried fish and chips, pizza or the steak … I thought I’d picked the safe option!! Lesson learnt

Yes that's fair enough, we don't know how we will react, a lot react to fried food and carbs, I've reacted twice and that was half a meatball pizza, was fine with chicken pizza though, and a beef burger, it was very greasy. I get dumping syndrome, but also had ibs which would make me react to some foods though seems different foods now. I've only had pizza twice in 5.5 months, daren't try it again!
