Monjaro and recent gallbladder removal

Fayelou2017 · 22/03/2025 20:19

Hello I have recently had my Gallbladder removed (4 days ago)
I have my first dose of monjaro in the fridge I wasn't able to start my journey due to waiting for my Gallbladder removing.
I have spoke to my doctor and the consultant who removed my Gallbladder but they don't know when would be a safe and good time to start the weight loss injections 🤷 I'm guessing it depends on each person's recovery time and how they feel.
But I'd like to know if anyone had there Gallbladder removed and then started monjaro like weeks or months after?

Thank you in advance

Years after, not months or weeks. But all is well x

I'd wait at least 6-8 weeks as you want to know how your bowels are going to adjust to food now the gallbladder is gone. Some people have quite dramatic changes and some barely notice anything at all.

Get a feel for what foods you can/can't eat and a baseline of how your body functions now, or you won't know for sure what is just "normal" now or a side effect of the meds.

Ideally you need to speak to your prescriber. Did you declare your gallbladder issues when you first ordered it?

LyndzB · 22/03/2025 20:39

Did you have pancreatitis (a bad side effect all gallstones) if so don’t touch monjoro without seeing a doctor

Mysticmaiden · 22/03/2025 22:31

Give your body time to heal first, isn't it usually a minimum if 6 weeks for surgery?
Better to take your time and do it right rather than rush and it causes serious issues or side effects

Fantina · 22/03/2025 23:03

I started 13 months after mine was removed

Moier · 22/03/2025 23:16

You don't have to declare gallbladder issues once you've had it removed.. because there is nothing there to declare. Had mine out two years ago.. but started Mounjaro last September..been fine on mounjaro..no side effects

ExplodingCarrots · 22/03/2025 23:33

I had mine out last May and started Mounjaro last month . I'd wait a couple of months to let your body fully heal . Your gut can be very temperamental for the first few months.

Hi LyndzB
No didn't have Pancreatitis all healthy there it was a few Gallstones that gave me a few attacks after eating, never suffered before but they say you can go years with no problems then start so my GP referred me for it removing and they whipped it out on Tuesday 😊

Hi, no I didn't.
I didn't have any problems when I ordered my first dose typically or fortunately the symptoms of gallstones came after I'd received it so I never took it.
So it's in the fridge unopened ready for when my body is 😊

It's usually minimum 6 weeks after most surgeries, I work in a hospital and dissect gallbladders! Although it's internal, it changes your fat metabolism so be careful with eating too much fat.

No I was given it weeks before the op and misplaced it 🤭 I've been relying on Google 🙄😅 but so far so good, I'm just dying for a soak in the bath, I can take the dressings off Tuesday so will be able to have a proper shower 🙌

Did you have key hole surgery? Do you mind if I ask your symptoms as I have been in a and e tonight. They suggested gallstones but have to wait for a scan.
