Seriously TMI: orgasms on Mounjaro

SlowOMounjaro · 20/03/2025 14:14

I have name changed for obvious reasons but I promise I'm a long-standing contributor to some of the long-running threads on this board. I absolutely cannot ask about this anywhere else!

Is anyone else finding that it is taking them longer to orgasm than usual on Mounjaro? I am currently single so there aren't many other variables for me to consider. I have a Womaniser toy which is normally very very efficient for its intended purpose and although I can still get there it is taking noticeably longer.

I have never taken SSRIs but I know that they can have a similar effect, and I wonder if this is linked to the effect that GLP-1s can have on mood that lots of posters have mentioned.

Curious to know if this is a more widespread phenomenon. I am likely to be on MJ for another few months before I reach goal, but I'm starting to think about dating and would ideally like to have as few obstacles in my way as possible!

It does affect the dopamine pleasure pathway which affects lots of cravings, addictions, sex drive etc I don't feel as sexually excitable as I used to but I still function as previous

ivegotthekeyivegotthesecret · 20/03/2025 16:22

Yes I noticed this

SharpOpalNewt · 20/03/2025 16:33

I stopped taking Femodene a few months ago to see if my periods have actually stopped now (age 49) and think my sex drive has gone up a bit, in spite of the undoubtedly low oestrogen I must have by now. It was already a bit better than when I was on desogestrel a couple of years before that. I already feel a bit more attractive and confident after losing a few pounds and certainly no adverse affects in that department noticed. DH will really have to watch out when I get to goal! 😅

Azureshores · 20/03/2025 17:04

I knew exactly what you were going to say just from your heading.

Yes, it's definitely a thing. The one thing in life I've always been able to count on is my orgasms! Dh knows exactly how to get me there etc but they're just taking ages or are just...meh.

I guess it's the numbing factor of mounjaro has in many ways. As well as now not enjoying food, I've also stopped enjoying alcohol and cigs. So everything "naughty" it seems! It's rubbish as the positives are I'm losing loads of weight really easily. I would like to stay on it long term even when I reach goal but I'm not sure it's worth the downside.

Pashazade · 20/03/2025 17:27

Yup very very annoying, took a few months for things to even out and they still aren’t “normal”. The one reason I don’t want to stay on it long term! My sex drive in general is buggered because of it as well and orgasms are really hard work!

Wonkypictureframe · 20/03/2025 17:32

Totally absent. Interesting you mentioned the Womaniser as I’ve got one to see if it might help but not tried it yet.

SlowOMounjaro · 21/03/2025 10:27

@Wonkypictureframe they are brilliant, I promise!

Interesting to hear the different experiences. It makes a lot of sense that it's all linked to the different pleasure pathways in the brain. I have managed to avoid the low mood that lots of people report but it sounds like this is one side effect that I may have to deal with for now.

Glad to see this thread as it was something I'd been wondering about!

I only have one experience to share as I'm a new MJ starter, but I found that while it took me longer to get going, the orgasm was longer lasting and a bit more intense than average. I also noticed that I thought about sex less than usual since having the jab, so did worry that libido might be affected.

Natalieonthemove86 · 18/04/2025 20:48

I came online specially to find this out I've been going mental thought something was wrong with me then it dawned on me it started same time as MJ i cant possibly go on without ever getting one, has yours improved if not its going in the bin 😅

@Natalieonthemove86 i literally just googled this. I’ve tapered down my dose to almost nothing as it’s my last week, coincidentally, I’m at the ovulation phase in my cycle and BANG my libido is back! It doesn’t just feel psychological though, it’s definitely physical as well. The higher doses made me often feel fatigued and tired, guess it also zapped my sex drive.

Definitely a worthwhile temporary blip. I finally feel confident & good in my own skin after years of losing/regaining the same half stone-9 lbs, but never getting close to my previous weight since having 2 more children. Now I’m a size 8 again, bigger than my pre-pregnancy weight, but so much happier

Natalieonthemove86 · 18/04/2025 21:52

I think I'm gonna jump back to wegovy had no side affects with that don't know why i changed really just wanted to follow the crowd 😅 I'm on it for maintenance now thank god. Honestly thought ive been broken doomed to never O again. Thank god for reddit and here 🙌

Pashazade · 18/04/2025 22:34

@Whyisitsobloodycold I am very relieved to hear your libido came back, I’m keeping everything crossed mine does. The nine months of low drive etc will be worth it but sheesh it’s been hard work!

I changed for wegovy to mj as well, had a psosiaris flare up the doctor thought could have been from wegovy! wegovy worked wonders for me and I'm not liking mj at all, so think I'm going to swap back

Natalieonthemove86 · 19/04/2025 14:19

I felt a more obvious restriction with wegovy, literally just changed because everyone was raving about it being better. Ideally I'd love to bin them all off. Might come off and see if i can maintain naturally eek x

I agree with you on that MJ doesn't seem as strong with my food noise as wegovy!

financialcareerstuff · 19/04/2025 17:48

Yeahhh I just feel kind of calmer all round, and that has a slight effect on how much I think about/ crave sex. And I think I’m wanting a bit more foreplay to get me in the mood. Fortunately once I’m there it’s just as satisfying, and losing the weight is counterbalancing, as this makes me more confident and energetic, which has helped in contrast.

somethingbeginningwithb · 23/06/2025 23:31

I know this thread is dead, but I found it because I googled this problem, and it led me here. I cannot climax since being on a high dose of Mounjaro (12.5mg & 15mg) either solo or with DH - I reach the peak and then just stay there in slow motion until I'm overstimulated to the point where I'm raw and have to stop. No release at all - it's so frustrating! I've lost 60lb on mounjaro so far - I feel more body confident and attractive than ever, but is this the price I have to pay for being a healthy weight for the first time in 20 years? It makes me feel what's the point in even trying, whereas previously I've always had a voracious appetite (for food and sex!) arrrrgh....

Pashazade · 24/06/2025 08:22

It’s one of the reasons I’m tapering down and probably coming off, I can’t be doing with it as a long term side effect. I’m at a weight I’m happy with but the mind/body disconnect is beyond frustrating, mentally I’m up for it but my body is letting me down! It’s got worse lately which has been very very frustrating, as things had seemed to be improving a little.
