Any tips appreciated!

I'm 5 foot height, 14-8 weight with a BMI of 39.8

About to start mounjaro on Friday late afternoon, what do I need to know /expect/ buy.

I haven't got any alcohol wipes to wipe the bit where the needle attaches to the pen so need to get those.

Nothing planned Saturday day time but a meal out on Saturday night...will j be able to eat anything! Only DH knows I'm jabbing.

Also got a free day Sunday to get any side effects out the way hopefully before Monday, I really don't want to be ill at work on Monday I can't WFH due to my job so it's either in work or off sick.

I've got actimel and peppermint tea as heard that helps with any sulphur burps etc.

I'm so unsure about what my new normal portion size will be. For work lunch I usually take a can of soup, crackers and cheese, a cereal bar and some fruit. Will I be able to eat that.

I'm so excited but also nervous!

Just buy less / order less food.

focus on protein and lots of water

not sure what your wipes are for

for some people it takes a few days to notice effects. Some get no suppression on 2.5 and have to wait to 5.

Have you looked in the package? I get wipes with my pens but only use them for the bonus dose.

It really is impossible to know how each individual will react OP. No way could I eat all that for lunch while on the medication. I usually have a protein yoghurt or a protein bar.

Going out to dinner is fine. I just order a starter and ask for it to be delivered as a main course. Nothing too creamy or fatty until you know how your body is going to react. Most people experience a reduced desire for alcohol too.

Good luck! It’s amazing medicine.

There's no wipes in the pack or in the sharps bin. I don't mind buying some they aren't expensive.

I'm not really a big drinker anyway, probably 1-2 glasses of wine or a beer on a weekend.

For the meal out we are either going for carvery or Chinese. For carvery I was thinking the meat will be fine then if I maybe just have 1 potato and then the veg. If we go for Chinese im thinking soup could be a good choice or apparently chicken in black bean is quite healthy (from my old slimming world days) and boiled rice.

At a carvery I would eat meat and green vegetables and be fine. Skip the potatoes and Yorkshire’s.

Chinese could be quite a gamble before you know how you are managing. You could very easily end up with a dodgy tummy.

The paper instructions that come with the pen say to wipe the end of the pen (where the red seal is) before attaching a new needle. So that’s what the wipes are for.

@Fatmumslim01I would say be prepared for your experience to be different to other people’s. It can vary hugely, you may not get any appetite suppression for a few weeks, or you could get it within a few hours. And anything in between. It’s a long term process that could take weeks/months to show results, so patience is vital.

Psyllium husk capsules help some of us since the digestive system slows down

The wipes are in the pen usage instructions - wipe the red seal each time before attaching the needle and then priming.

Might be worth re-reading to see what else you have missed, easily done.

Yes I know that. I just didn’t understand why OP thought she needed to buy some.

AmythestBangle · 20/03/2025 00:08

You can't tell how your suppression (or side effects) will be until you are taking it, don't stress so much, wait and see. I have had no side effects apart from constipation. Your description of a lunch sounds enormous to me now (would have been normal pre MJ), so expect that at some point you are probably going to just take the cereal bar to work rather than all the rest! I can't eat anything in the day except protein shakes/bars and fibre tablets!

giggly · 20/03/2025 00:26

Do not listen to people on here or TikTok about golden doses and clicks. Take it as prescribed the same way you would any other prescribed medication. I highly doubt anyone who swears by saving a few bob by taking what is left would do that if it was chemotherapy or similar but yet they’re happy to do it with a complicated medication like mounjaro.
drink lots is water and make sure you have enough fibre in your diet, no need to buy any specific part from mints for the sulphur burps that you may get

You said "not sure what your wipes are for" which I took to mean you didn't.

She needs to buy some because she doesn't have any. Not all providers supply them.

thanks for explaining it. twice. 😳

Fatmumslim01 · 21/03/2025 16:29

First jab done! Took me longer to read the instructions than anything! Didn't even feel it going in. Here's to onwards and hopefully downwards!

I took my second dose yesterday. Did a lot of research on reddit and in fb groups before deciding to go ahead with WL medication.

Things I believe are helping me
Protein shakes - I'm buying ready mixed right now, hoping to move onto powder next month for convenience
Pepto bismol - has dealt with any (so far very) minor gastrointestinal issues
Eggs and/or tuna - never a big fan of either before, but red meat simply doesn't appeal at the moment - it sits too heavily

I'm also taking these supplements
multivit+minerals, vit d (both for over 2 years with GP approval)
peppermint gels (burps are now minty fresh), biotin, digestive enzymes and pre/probiotics
