Bought too many 7.5mg pens, now I’m stuck :/

SW BMI - 39.6
CW BMI - 33.7

Maybe not as bad as it sounds but I ended up buying 3x 7.5mg pens and now I’m scrambling trying to do maths on what to do next with these pens.

I have moved up the doses as prescribed and did my 2.5mg and then my 5mg and I guess a naive part of me thought 7.5mg would be the dose I’d stick with a little longer as I could always use some additional clicks for a higher dose worse case scenario (the mental gymnastics of this decision in hindsight 🙄). Figured I had some savings and with the more stringent checks & influx of users, I didn’t want to be stuck or caught up in the stress of getting my next order. Just finished my first 7.5mg pen (incl 5th dose) and the food noise is back with a vengeance. It’s gotten to the point where even the hubby commented ‘is your MJ even still working?’ 👀…

Despite what he’s seen in the last couple of days, I haven’t gone TOO crazy with food as I’ve been building quite a good stronghold of better lifestyle changes (still undercutting my TDEE) but I won’t lie either, it’s only been 3 months and I’m not the pilar of strength I’d like to think I am. To add insult to injury I’ve been stalling the last 2 weeks and the scales haven’t really shifted = more (unhealthy) food intake so yeah…

Stark reality has been faced and I realise now that instead of the 10 week stockpile, I’m looking at maybe a 4-8 week reserve depending on how the next pen plays out?

I’m the victim of my own mistakes and it is a bit of a ‘cry me a river’ scenario but I’m really scrambling to figure out how I’ll be navigating the next 2-3 months as I really didn’t want to move up doses quickly unless the worse did happen and the effectiveness of MJ was in play. I’m going back on the TTC journey sooner then I planned originally so need to make these next 2-3 months count to get me in the best possible position as my first full term pregnancy was a bit hellish due to my history of MC and frankly the extra weight didn’t help.

Has anyone ever been a pen ahead and has had to divide the next pen like this? What might be a good dose split / titration? (I’m not opposed to using the 5th dose)

Any advice would be appreciated!

I did this but decided not to divide. I had two 5mg pens in the fridge when I moved to 7.5mg. I kept them and used a new 7.5mg instead. I am now at target and used up the two pens while titrating back down and stopping. Look at the expiration dates and see if that could be an option for you.

Otherwise what you suggest sounds sensible. You will only need to work out once your clicks, you could mark them on your pen.

Can you order some 2.5 pens and inject twice ? Although I wouldn't do that unless I'd checked with a pharmacist that it would be ok.

A full dose of any Mj pen is 60 clicks so if you want to go up to 10mg you'll need to take a full dose plus 20 clicks. I don't think you should use the same needle ideally but if you're going to inject right after then it's probably fine. The pens won't last the full 4 weeks but if you've got insulin syringes you can extract the extra and make them last longer that way.
If after a month at 10 you want to go up again you will need to work out how much you have left altogether across however many pens you have left and work out when you need to order the next one and which dose you need. But just remember 20 clicks is 2.5mg in the 7.5mg pens and you can work it out that way.

I'm currently taking 12.5 from a 10mg pen by using a syringe.
I know I'll only get the 4 doses out if it, instead of the 5 I usually use but as a one off I'm okay with that.
So you could do a higher dose from your existing pens, as the PP explained, or you could place an order for a 10mg pen. I'd probably order from another pharmacy who won't know you've got other pens stashed. You only have to send a pic of the prescription label on the box as proof you've been taking 7.5.

You can then save the pens you have for when you're at or near your goal and you need a lower maintenance dose.

Could this help you? It's about dosing down but could help with the maths side of things

Thanks everyone helpful advice and I might do the 20 clicks then as that would bypass ordering more pens. I don’t know why I kept trying to think the maths would just over complicate things but maybe that will work out and I’ve got extra syringes anyway so I can make sure I work out the final dose with the new pen and hopefully it will even out?! Lols oh what a totally avoidable pickle 😂😭

required strength divided by pen dose x 60 = clicks

10 / 7.5 x 60 = 80 clicks

See, I used to think I was good in maths back when I was at school but how is my mind blown by that formula! Insane I never worked it out so thank you so much 😭 this will be incredibly helpful as a tidbit to keep in mind in the future!
