Carbamazepine & Mounjaro

Is anyone taking these together?

I nearly started on Mounjaro at the end of last year and had gone through screening without issue when another medical issue made me decide to wait.

I’m now ready to start, with my BMI at the highest its ever been and on completing the screening find that it's now contraindicated with Carbemazepine.
Surely absorption of all drugs is affected due to reduced gut motility?

They advise me to consult my GP, and obviously I will, but it just seems such a kick in the teeth.

It’s one of those drugs that interacts with everything, it’s always a case of risk v benefit.

Ive been on it for 30+ years and haven’t had a seizure for 10 years so the way I’m feeling right now if I could only choose one drug I’d go with Mounjaro.

Nobody here can advise you on this.

You said you're going to speak to your GP, so do that.

Thank you, but I think I may have been misunderstood. I’m certainly not asking for medical advice from strangers on the internet, lovey though the majority of us are! 😄 The question about absorption was a rhetorical one, sorry.

I asked if anyone was taking these 2 drugs together, or knows of anyone else that is? As most GP practices are closed at the weekend I was hoping to gauge, from the collective wisdom of MN, how unusual my predicament is.

You can't choose between the two surely. You haven't had a seizure for 10 years because you've been on Carbemazipine for 30+ years. If you stop taking C, it's risking your health, your ability to drive etc etc. No GP will advise that

Thank you, I’m probably just being melodramatic as I stood on the scales this morning for the first time this year.😱

Did you ever get an answer? I'm on 1000mg of carbamazepine for nerve pain and have been taking Wegovy since March and hadn't heard of any interactions

Hi @Crole, yes I spoke to my GP who was happy for me to take it and I found a different private prescriber and started in May.

Since then I’ve lost 24kg!! 😆

I’ve found a couple of prescribers screen me out but at least 4-5 who are happy including my own local NHS pharmacist who sees me face to face.

No issues so far and I’ve titrated up slowly, currently at 6mg.

Can I ask which provider you got mounjaro from? I am on carbemazepine too and cannot get an online pharmacy to prescribe mounjaro!
