Boots declined my application for Mounjaro, any recommendations for other providers?

Hello all,

I have recently made the decision to try Mounjaro in an effort to lose weight. I completed the questionnaire with Boots online and uploaded photos.

After waiting nearly a week, I got a response from the clinician who had reviewed my details and they said that my photos did not appear to reflect my bmi, and so refused to prescribe and refunded my money.

I'm so annoyed, as I'd thought long and hard about doing this, and after making the decision I was eager to get started. In a way, slightly chuffed I seem to be 'carrying my weight well' 😅 but this doesn't change the fact that I am overweight, I am in the obese category bmi, and I need to make changes.

For context, I am 5'3 and 14stone 4lb, making my bmi over 35. I was wearing black in the photos, which may have made me look smaller than I am.

Anyway, what provider did you go with? Who should I try next?

I also just wanted to say that I have been reading the threads on here about weightloss injections a lot over the last few weeks and they have been so helpful as ive been weighing up whether to try it- the good and the bad - so thank you for sharing! It's been really inspiring to read all the success stories.

I've been with MedExpress from the start (6 months now) and I've always found them okay. Currently waiting for my updated photo to be approved so I may report back with a complaint. 😂

You could go via a private GP if you didn't want to do the online process again though.

There was a four page spread about weight loss injections in Woman magazine recently. They are tighting up distribution of these injections from this Spring

Make sure you have no issues with your gallbladder and pancreas.
I had gallstones (unbeknown to me) and ended up in hospital.
However I do support WLJ in principle.

@Edensnapz contact them and ask if you can resubmit a photo that realistically displays your figure. Leggings and a thirty pulled/knotted tight or shorts and sports bra, swimming gear underwear etc.

all Black won’t really show your figure for them.

otherwise try med express etc but a better photo. .

Probably most other pharmacies, if you take pictures that aren't where you're wearing black and that show where you carry the weight. You're aiming for the most unflattering combination you can manage. I wore leggings and a tight t-shirt that was really too small for me but you could see the weight on me.

I'm surprised that Boots won't let you resubmit new images, but anyway they are super expensive so I would treat it as a lucky escape! Just try again with any of the pharmacies on the list at https://monj.co.uk/discount-mounjaro-price-list/ - just seen that Boots are currently the most expensive at £219 !!!! for the 2.5mg dose whereas the cheapest pharmacy is £86.99. A huge difference with no real difference in the service provided.

I will have a look at med express tonight, thank you! I will also make sure my photos are more true to life. Wearing less clothes is good advice, although a scary thought to lay it all bear when I'm so used to hiding it.

@jennifer I have also seen similar articles recently, - I think it's good there will be more stringent checks in place, but I hope this doesn't stop me getting it.

Thank you all for your replies

I’ve just got a pen from WePrescribe with £40 off and they didn’t ask for photos at all which surprised me

Tranquilitybaby · 01/03/2025 23:19

I ordered from Oushk, they reviewed and accepted my order within 24 hours. Picked my delivery day, it was very smooth. There’s a money off code for first orders too

Edensnapz · 02/03/2025 00:32

I will check both those out, thank you. Seems I was about to pay quite a bit more with Boots, so as someone said above, maybe for the best they didn't accept me!

I’m with juniper (not the cheapest) but they accepted (headless!) shots of me with bmi of 28. I was 13.7 stone when I started and I’m 5”8”. Lost 17lbs in 5 weeks.

KhakiCat · 02/03/2025 01:15

I had no issues with my photos or my weight, I am clearly a good candidate. No comorbidities for now, either. So I was really surprised to be declined the first time I tried to order.

Turns out it was because I indicated I was on daily contraceptive - are you? If so, that'll be it.

soupforbrains · 02/03/2025 01:24

I've used Lloyds online. They ask for video rather than photos and I think that helps because rather than trusting the photo of the scales. The video is harder to fake etc. so they're maybe a bit more trusting?

Good luck.
