Anyone as sensitive to Mounjaro as me- gastro issues & lost 4st 7lbs in 4 months.

Hi all.

So about 4 months ago I started MJ & did pretty well on 2.5 (no side effects). I moved up to 5mg after 4 weeks & I was practically on deaths door and was so so unwell. Felt horrific and spent the night in bathroom etc. So I went down to 3.75 and stayed on that for a while but that’s when I started having sulphur burps regularly weekly and I don’t know about you all but I find them so debilitating (and embarrassing)! They seem to go on for days for me even when I eat nothing due to them making me feel sick & they end up causing me to vomit from the stench. I then randomly reacted to 3.75 badly after having a tad too much cheese (we are talking 30g nothing crazy) on an otherwise very healthy low fat dinner & was so unwell for about 2 days (D&V). I thought it might be a fluke so I stuck on the 3.75 and it happened again so I came off MJ for a few weeks as it was making me really down being ill.

Fast forward to the new year and I went back on MJ & back down to 2.5mg (which previously had been fine for me) & I started experiencing the issues I’d had on the higher dose, such as feeling sick/being sick/having diarrhoea if I ate anything in the first 2 days after jabbing slightly higher in fat such as cheese or low calorie homemade dinners with any oil/fats in ie olive oil etc. So I’ve come off it again and haven’t jabbed for 2 weeks now!

I am just wondering if anyone is as sensitive to it as me? I mean it’s been great weight loss wise as I’ve lost 63lbs in 17 weeks BUT mentally it’s just draining worrying about getting side effects/having to call in sick to work because I’ve spent the whole night up in bathroom!! Also wondering if anyone’s come off it on a higher dose and then been more sensitive to the starting dose?? It’s baffling.

thank you in advance x

Do you have much more to lose? It clearly isn't agreeing with you. I suppose you could try oxempic which is a different drug.

Why continue to take this medication if it’s making you unwell and at death’s door? Are you getting medical advice?

Just because the medication exists and is trendy, it doesn’t mean you have to take it. Given the side effects I would have considered alternatives by now if I were you. I certainly would have investigated this with a medical professional, for example if you have an issue with dairy it could point to an intolerance, or that you should stop taking MJ.

It's clearly not agreeing with u
you. I would seek.medical advice and stop.

It's worth contacting your prescriber to go through your options.

I am on my second week. Felt pretty much fine in week one but absolutely at death's door in week two. Horrible sickness, headache and exhaustion. I will talk to Voy as the provider but imagine that's it for me - some people will always just react much more acutely and at this stage in life with young children we can't manage my being this unwell.

I'm not sorry I tried though. It worked so well on me I lost 5kg in a week. It has kick-started me eating better and things like uploading my meals to an app for analysis has been really affirming, while I have definitely slept and felt better for not wanting a glass of wine at night. I wanted to make a change and feel like I have, even if I can't medicate.

Sounds like it’s not agreeing with you.

on week one 2.5 sat-tue I felt sick, headaches. However week two I’ve not experience these side effects

I think I will be sticking with 2.5 if I continue to lose.

I suppose I’m quite sensitive to it. Was on 2.5 for about 9 weeks, now 3.75. I tried 5 for a week but it was too much, tummy just upset. And I’m losing steadily so there’s no real reason to go up. I probably should have just stuck with 2.5. BMI down from 35 to 30 over 12 weeks, 15% of body weight gone.

i definitely can’t eat more than a bite of cheese without getting the burps, and meals are very veg-based with lean protein or I’ll be gurgling and dashing to the loo. But it’s so effective I don’t mind having to be careful, and I’m not attracted by higher calorie food any more.

Since you respond well in terms of weight loss, could you try just 1.25 if you want to start again? Give that a few weeks and go up to 2.5 if you need?

Miley1967 · 25/02/2025 21:24

I have been on 2.5mg for six weeks now and still having the horrible burps, heartburn and occasionally explosive diarrhoea maybe once a week. I do need to try to go up as not really having much appetite supression but am really worried about what I could be like on 3.75mg.

flowerrrrpoweerr · 28/02/2025 19:07

You'd be a bit reckless to carry on in my opinion.
How much weight do you have to lose?
Could you try a different method?

I'd be worried I'd be permanently messing up my gut if I were you. IBS and crones etc are serious health issues to have and you obviously aren't responding like the vast majority.

It's not healthy to lose weight through starvation/a form of bulimia even if you are using jabs to do this.

Just my advice, I get its addictive to lose weight especially if you struggle to do that normally.
I don't know how often you've been taking the day off work because of your reaction to the jabs, but that's a worry too.
