What are you going to do when you reach your goal?

I thought it might be motivating to talk about the things people want to do when they get to their goal weight. If you're like me, you've probably put off loads of things that you wanted to do because you were worried about being too fat/heavy, but now that I've been on MJ for a while, I can actually see myself getting back to a healthy weight, and some of those things are genuinely possible in the future. For me, my main ones are:

  • Start going horse riding again. I used to love it and did it from when I was a small kid right up until 15 years ago, when the weight started piling on. Most stables do have a weight limit, so once I exceeded that I couldn't go anyway, but even when I was overweight but still under the limit, I felt embarrassed about how I looked, and sorry for the poor horse! Also, the horsy world is full of tiny, wiry-thin people who make anyone else look like a big galumphing sort of creature, which is hard to deal with when you're bigger than you'd like.
  • Buy a frivolous swimsuit. Yes, I could do this any time at any weight, but for me personally, I would feel daft in a frilly halterneck cossie with a bright pattern at 15 stone. I'm going on holiday in October and hoping to be at goal by then so I can choose something really impractical and not black!

I'm sure there are more things but those are my main two. Would love to hear from others.

I’m going to buy some really nice jeans/trousers. After years of shredding lovely trouser and jeans due to my chub rub, I’m looking forward to having something beautiful and comfy that will last!

I'm looking forward to being able to do some active things with the kids, I'm desperate to try to help them find active things that they enjoy so they don't end up being obese.

I'd like to start running
Join the kids at a climbing wall
Go to a theme park
All of my kids are footballers and I might think about doing some coaching qualifications
Go on bike rides (i had to stop riding as it hurt my bum too much)

I'm only at the start of weight loss, but one of the things I'm most looking forward to is joining a Pilates class. My good friend goes twice a week and it sounds like a friendly group and really beneficial for your body.

Also, I'm looking forward to flying more easily. I fly long haul to visit family regularly and it's a squash and squeeze as I'm tall too.

Buy new clothes, invest in some classics.
I'm more than half way to goal and could do with new things but am getting by on the minimum because I don't want to buy things that are going to be too big soon

Yes, I'm trying to make do with what I've got, but clothes shopping is so much more enjoyable when you can choose from regular sized ranges. Like you, I'd love to get some classic pieces, especially a long winter coat in wool, and just some decent trousers for work. I'm not interested in "showing off my figure", just wearing well-made things that fit properly. Clothes manufacturers don't seem to want to make such items over a size 14, ime.

@RobinEllacotStrike I’ve been really struggling with my outdoor swimming too (lake though not sea), it’s so painful getting in. And I stay frozen to the bone for absolutely hours! The place I go has limited time slots during the winter/darker months so I’m only able to go Saturday and Sunday but during the warmer months I can go almost daily. However at the moment I can’t ever see myself having the motivation to go more than twice a week as I’m just so bloody cold!
I will also add that while I bought the scallopy swimsuit above, it’s not what I wear for my lake swims 😂 it was something I bought as dh and I were going to a fancy lido and my old swimmers were baggy!

I agree its soooo painful now. I don't know how those without much body fat bear it. I've swum 5 winters without gloves as I really loved my hands getting cold - its a very painkiller for tendonitis. Now its just pain. I can't really settle - I don't get to that "ah its OK now" that would come after a minute of so.

Thankfully we have a local sea sauna so I can warm up really effectively using that.

I think in part its the weightloss. But I also feel quite cold a lot now and I believe that is a MJ side effect. Combined with my doc taking me off HRT 🤬 I now have 100's of hot flashes a day. So I'm either bone chilled freezing cold or in a hot sweaty state.

I'm really missing the mental health benefits of my regular swims. I'm hoping once weight stabilises and I come off MJ, next winter I'll be able to keep swimming.

Buy loads of lovely new clothes in loads of wonderful colours. I already bought some fun leggings. I could never wear them before. Only another 3 stone to go.

What are you going to do when you reach your goal?
PinkArt · 13/02/2025 18:11

Dance in the streets naked! Except I should be reaching it near Christmas so I might need a more practical plan b. Having something planned to mark it is a wonderful idea.
I'm marking each stone lost with new jewellery so maybe something really ostentatious for when I finally have a healthy BMI.

AelitaQueenofMars · 14/02/2025 20:09

To all of you heading towards goal..I am there, and for the first time in my adult life (am now 54) I’m wearing mini skirts. It feels AMAZING!!

ICriedAllTheWayToTheChipShop · 14/02/2025 21:51

Ah, I won't be doing that, because even when I was just over 9st in my youth, I still had awful legs (pear shaped with heavy thighs). I doubt the passing of 20 years and the addition of loose skin will improve them, so I will stick with tailoring!

Clothes are definitely my motivation. To be able to tuck a top into a skirt would be heaven.

NotOlive · 15/02/2025 12:29

Hopefully have knee surgery, get mobile and enjoy life more. That includes getting around on public transport , shops, museums or galleries , getting into plane or theatre seats better. Basically a better quality of life.

DarkForces · 15/02/2025 13:22

I'm going to get my first ever bikini - and wear it on a public beach!
