Mounjaro and gallstones

Have been thinking about taking mounjaro for ages. I love my food and have been slowly putting on weight over the years. Recently found out I have ‘uncomplicated gallstones’ approx 2/3 and have had to attacks which have been awful.

I have been told its removal is the only thing that solves it once and for all but I’ve also seen online about low fat diets. I basically have no willpower to follow a diet, even with this looming over me. I know there is an increased risk of gallstones with weight loss jabs but does anyone have any direct experience? I’m hoping it will enable me to adopt a much healthier diet which will be beneficial all around.

I was diagnosed with gallstones in 2019. They would have removed my gallbladder but I needed to lose weight first, then covid hit. My consultant said to eat a low fat diet, I was also diagnosed with diverticula, and had a colon polyp in 2020. I did loads of research and decided I would try a whole food plant based diet (low fat, minimal oil). This worked for me and I've not had any pain since. Im wondering if meat was the trigger as I do still have things like nuts and avocado.

I lost 5 stone, but then plateaued so Ive been on MJ to lose the last 4/5 stone. My supplier knows I have gallstones and it wasnt an issue, MJ makes it easier to make the right choices with food.

Be honest with your provider with your medical history, they will make a decision based on your individual circumstances for your safety. Probably best going to a smaller patient led pharmacy, the big ones might just be an instant reject as they don't want to deal with complex histories. I have seen a few posts where people are saying they are getting rejected from Med Express now (when previously approved/prescribed) for a history of gallstones and/or gallbladder removal.

Hopefully those with gallstones can share which prescribers are still prescribing to them. Also the recent tightening up of regulations for online prescribing might mean changes.
