Body shape different to regular dieting

Slibberydibbery · 09/02/2025 14:22

I have several friends and a DP on MJ and all are doing very well as expected. What is very interesting is they all seem to be slimming down in ways they never did in previous diets such as SW, WW, 5:2 etc, the shape of the bodies seems to be going >>>>0<<<< rather than bits going from here and there.

It’s almost like they’re regrowing as thin people, all over. Is this being noticed by others?

@Gettingslimmer she really isn’t coming across resentful. You’re coming across as overly defensive.

Zusammengebrochen · 09/02/2025 16:12

Gettingslimmer · 09/02/2025 16:09

And you’re coming across like you’re resentful of the drugs. We can all read something that’s not there.

I won’t back down, you feel people who use the drugs are more likely to not exercise or eat enough protein, for some reason you can’t back up. I factually know people who undertake a weight loss diet can do this, any weight loss diet and there is no evidence to suggest the type of person to use drugs is more likely to not eat enough protein and exercise as you repeatedly claim.

and quite frankly if you and the other poster want to think this makes me defensive, then colour me defensive and I shall colour you resentful.

Why would I be resentful of something that contrubutes to improving people's lives and them becoming healthier?

If you don't like my comments you can ignore them, but, it's fairly clear you do feel defensive.

Anyway, moving on.

Why would I be defensive over some randoms using the drugs that I’ve neve4 even met?

we can both play the same game. You keep arguing you’ve this opinion, despite any evidence to back such a thing up and demanding I accept it. And when I don’t you proclaim me to be defensive of people I don’t even know using the drugs.

so I can do the same thing. If you think I’m going to let you keep demanding and making accusations and crawl away the answer is I shall not.

trust me.

I'm not playing a game.
I'm not here to argue the same point back and forth with you.
I've answered you several times.
Ignore my posts if they bother you that much. Moving on.

Sorry this thread wasn’t intended to end up as a bun fight. Can we move on and stick to the discussion about the main point?

Take the roughness over to an AIBU or Facebook

There is something a bit different about WLD. I have lost (and gained) big amounts of weight several times in my life and for those periods that occur in the last 15 years, I have used the same smart scales to weigh myself. Those scales give me body fat %.

I have noticed, on MJ, that my body fat is going down much quicker than it ever did during previous weight loss periods - most of which involved quite a lot of weight bearing exercises.

It flies in the face of the received wisdom that WLD make you lose muscle mass. It genuinely does not seem to be the case here.

Titasaducksarse · 09/02/2025 16:35

I'm a month into taking Mounjaro. I've lost a stone and have another 3 to 4 stones to go.
I'm back in the gym doing weights 2/3 times a week and once a week go to yoga. Very conscious as a late 40s perimenopausal female of the need for good muscle and bone density. I also do not aspire to be thin.
Regarding this post I do feel I'm trimming down all over although stomach has trimmed very quickly. No one has noticed I've lost weight but to me and my partner it's visible in the face. I've not been drinking alcohol so I've lost that bloat too.

Of course.
Apologies if me repeatedly trying to explain the same thing has let to a tangent. That poster is trying to continue her bun fight by laughing at this too. Sigh.
I do think my original reply related to your question though.

1clavdivs · 09/02/2025 16:49

I think I have a 'leaner' look than I had before, but then I've stuck at it for longer and lost more. As soon as I was light enough not to injure myself, I started running three times a week, and I also do weights a couple of times a week. Because I've been able to lose enough weight to feel mobile, I've been active in different ways this time. My fancy scales say I've increased lean mass by just over 5%, which doesn't feel like a lot but my body does feel more muscular this time.

oh so I see you’re not moving on. Would that be like you laughing at my posts?

op, I’m sorry about this, no intent to hijack yout thread, but when someone posts something erroneous, then demands we accept it. Then starts getting petty it warrants a response.

Doggymummar · 09/02/2025 17:03

I was interested in your post OP, shame it was hijacked. From my renpho scales I can see I have lost a huge amount of internal fat ( I've lost 5 stone so far but it doesn't show so much externally) my NAFLD scores are down to almost normal and my doctor is thrilled. It's very important to balance your macros though, and that could be where some with arguably less to lose and maybe a more short-term weight issue are taking shortcuts. I don't know. I have no evidence I am my own experiment.

HellofromJohnCraven · 09/02/2025 17:43

I've lost 20% of my bodyweight over 6 months.
However, just like other diets, it's gone off my legs, face and back. I've still got a fat stomach.

I find that the best way to tone my stomach is swimming, not sure if that's an option for you? Front crawl really seemed to help. Or a resistance band exercise with some sort of twisting in it can help too.

Sampler · 09/02/2025 17:55

I was going to say that I have noticed it being a different type of weight loss - subtle differences. However, it’s been 10 years since I was on a diet and I’ve got older so I was wondering if it’s because my shape has changed anyway.

Don't understand what your interest/beef is on this @Zusammengebrochen - are you on the injections yourself or just having a deep dive into the injecting weightloss threads for shits and giggles ?

Without giving myself away with too much detail, I have worked in scientific research in the past, not on these particular drugs but in an area that would have been impacted by them. I have nothing against their use, but in a controlled manner, under medical supervision and as part of an overall approach. I just worry that some people will use them wrongly, and end up worse off (thinner but malnourished/wasting away).

Bingo, anyone?

@1clavdivs I think we might need to add one about muscle wastage at some point. We are running out of space Grin

Sampler · 09/02/2025 18:18

I don’t think I look malnourished but I dearly wish I’d got myself a resistance band and done some twisty moves whilst swimming and saved a fortune.

Nice misinterpretation.
That was advice specifically to the poster who has had success with weight loss in several places other than her stomach. I suggested that as a potential way of helping tone her stomach, not as an absolute alternative to any other methods of weight loss. Perhaps read the comments in context.

Sampler · 09/02/2025 18:58

Oh, shaming me now for my ASD and poor literacy skills ?
I’m going to cry now and mess around with my resistance band in the pool. If I drown, it’s your fault.

I'm really curious about this observation OP but I have no idea what this means!

Do you mean that all their weight is coming off their tummy?

Or something else entirely?
