Mounjaro injection caused huge liquidy bump?

Hi guys, this is my 9th or 10th week on MJ and I have had no issues with the injections before.

When I did my weekly jab just now, (a) the needle pricked quite hard which it hasn't ever done before, and (b) it felt a bit hard to push the plunger in but it's a new pen so I just thought it might be slightly different and I disregarded it and just pushed it all the way in anyway.

Upon going to pull the needle out I noticed this huge bump where it looks like the liquid has just basically all collected there. I'll attach the best photos I could take.

I'm thinking the needle didn't go in far enough and that's why it hurt AND was hard to push the plunger? Has anybody had this and did it still have the right effect or has it not been injected properly? Did the bump subside?

Obviously I will ask the question of my online pharmacy in the morning but there's a wealth of experience on here....

Thankyou.

I can't quite tell but is it very close to your belly button?

TheLymeTrew · 02/02/2025 21:09

As a dr that's too close to your belly button and won't absorb properly or will take a long while to absorb

newschoolpals · 02/02/2025 21:10

Yes it's near my belly button but around the same distance around it that I've done all the other injections? Isn't that one of the three places we are supposed to inject? (Belly/thigh/rear upper arm?)

It needs to be at least 2 inches away from your belly button if you inject in your tummy.

TheLymeTrew · 02/02/2025 21:19

Tissue nr your belly button is denser and less fatty so more like a muscular injection than a subcutaneous one and won't be as effective

Thisisthewayz · 02/02/2025 21:23

Hi @newschoolpals - it needs to be at least 2 inches(5 cms) away from your belly button, it won’t be absorbed so easily, might be more likely to cause a reaction, redness, & more painful as you inject. It might take a little time for that bump to go down, will probably look a bit better in the morning. We actually have scar tissue there from where our umbilical cord went in there. But don’t worry, just do it further away in future.

newschoolpals · 02/02/2025 21:26

Ok thanks all! I just realised that I must actually have scar tissue around there from an old belly piercing. The bump has gone down a little now.

I have just had the same happen on my. Thigh. The needle was hard to. Push down and it hurt. I had a lump on my leg and lots of liquid ran down my leg so. I dint think I have had my fuse. Even though I haveva lump. And it bled.

AnnTillyMint · 20/07/2025 22:55

I had the same on Friday and was a bit worried until I found someone saying it can happen if the needle wasn’t in far enough or not at the right angle. This makes total sense, I had a huge bruise a couple of weeks ago from being too heavy handed so went easier the following week (all good with that one) and again on Friday, but I was in a rush and am pretty certain I messed up in hindsight. Same thing, plunger a bit resistant to push in, then lump appeared, was a bit red and itchy but it did go in a few hours. Anyway, lesson learned, take right time and space needed, and watch the needle and angle.

I get the bump occasionally and it goes. I agree though you are way too close to your belly button and remember to never ever rub the injection site after

LuLuRN · 20/07/2025 23:04

I would suggest looking at you tube videos or similar on how to administer a subcutaneous injection.

Or just the instructions that come with the pen!

Cmarshall · 21/07/2025 12:39

This was not my furst injection. This was my 1st injection with a new pen. I knoe how to Inject so your reply was not very helpful! I simply wanted to kniw if I should take another dose as most of this seemed to run diwn my leg

Froggmum · 28/07/2025 19:02

Hi, the same happened to me today - exactly like yours. Been using Mounjaro for a year, did exactly what I’ve always done and today the needle didn’t seem to want to go in… in the end it did and when I pulled it out, exactly the same bump as yours appeared! I ma not even going to put a photo up because it is identical. I did not do anything differently and I do rotate sites.
Did the bump go away and how long did it take? It is a bit of a lump and I am stressed about it!
thank you for your help…
