Anyone not got on with Mounjaro?

There are so many threads about how much people have lost. I'm on the verge of giving up. I've lost 21lbs in 4 months but have had horrible side effects for most of that time. Feeling sick, suddenly being sick, sulphur burps, acid reflux and 24 hours of constant diarrhoea each week. Plus fatigue and constant coldness. I'm about to go away for a couple of weeks and just can't face being ill on holiday. Anyone had similar and got through it! I have 74lbs still to lose.

Can you tell us a bit more?

What are you eating in a typical day, what dosage are you on?

frogpigdonkey · 31/01/2025 19:11

I'm only two months on and 18lb down (at least 50 more to go). I've had occasional bouts of diarrhoea and nausea, some heartburn. I have found that it seems quite individual as to what triggers bad side effects- salad gives me terrible indigestion (especially radishes!), but cooked veg is ok. big or fatty meals make me feel very uncomfortable- they feel like they sit just under my breastbone. I've found smaller meals and concentrating on veg and protein and limiting carbs has had the least side effects. What have you tried food wise? I feel my side effects are manageable and much better if I'm careful.

I have smaller meals but probably do eat too many carbs. I just don't really enjoy lots of meals without carbs. I get bored of salad so end up eating fruit, nuts and yoghurt. My worry is that we have a dining plan on holiday (US) so I'm going to struggle to avoid carbs.

I'm still on 5mg as 7.5 meant I couldn't leave the house.

Depends how restricted your meal plan is and how bad your stomach is really! I'm not being flip- I love a steak and chips but I get a less fatty sauce and eat fewer chips and more veggies than before. My experience has been that I can't eat the way I used to without side effects. Also switching out the carbs- eg at home I air fry new potatoes in a little oil and salt rather than have oven chips.

Then yes, I think you should stop.

You are eating things that are not only interfering with your chance to lose weight, but with your actual well-being. They are making you sick and in pain, and you are now planning around an opportunity to eat even more of the same. So yes, stop, so that at least you are free of the sickness and pain.

This isn't a judgement, but I honestly think you should try again when you really feel that you are truly ready. I don't want to sound superior because I really, really am not, but when I started with MJ it was in total desperation because nothing else worked, and I just could NOT bear any more to carry on being fat and getting fatter.

I feel you are not yet ready to give this a proper chance to work.

I understand that but to be honest the appetite suppression just doesn't work any more. I had it for a few weeks, but I'm now craving all the foods I used to eat. I am making better choices and eating less but any carbs, e.g cereal/porridge/ a slice of toast or a few potatoes makes me instantly vomit.

I had symptoms at 5mg but they disappeared at 7.5mg. What you eat matters though.

Have you tried sticking to a high protein, low carb, low fat diet? It does seem that your food choices are hampering your chances of success.

As PP said, maybe this isn’t the right medication for you, or the wrong time.

Holidayfitness · 31/01/2025 21:14

I did stick to it rigidly and it was fine on 2.5, but the side effects have been crap since being on 5mg, which I've been on for 3 months. My diet has slipped now as the appetite suppression has stopped but I'm still feeling ill.
I think I might come off it and try again after my holiday. I just can't cope with being ill on the plane.

Have you tried 7.5mg? 5mg for me was really awful but 7.5mg has been amazing. All the horrible side effects have gone (apart from the coldness) and I'm losing consistently every week.

5mg seems to be a problem for quite a lot of people....I couldn't stick it for more than a month.
