More Frequent Mounjaro Injections?

Hi All. I am still relatively new to Mounjaro and would like to seek the wisdom of the more experienced among us! I have just taken my 3rd injection of 5mg. This does seems to work really well for the first 5 days. For the final 2 days before the next injection I can eat anything and everything! Rather than increasing to 7.5mg would it be ok to have my 5mg injection every 5 days? Happy to hear a range of thoughts and experiences. Thanks 🙂

Take your medication as prescribed. Use willpower for two days.

You have to learn how to manage your portions and your hunger. That's the point.

glittermittens · 31/01/2025 08:52

First reply is correct. You need to adapt to using willpower some days, totally suppression is not going to help you in the long run.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 31/01/2025 08:55

Doses build to a peak in your third week so it may well be that you have suppression for longer this week/next week.

If you are struggling and the two days are too much, speak to your provider who may suggest taking it sooner as a short term thing but if you need to go up, you need to go up!

Out of curiosity, why the reluctance to move to 7.5mg?

As 5mg works well for most of the week I didn't want to risk increasing to 7.5 and then get side effects..... I could still increase and see....

I treat those couple of days before the injection as a test. Unless I am going to be on this forever I need to adapt and cope with the hunger. I do eat more but stay sensible.
Yes, follow the dosage plan. The half life thing will gradually increase what’s in your body anyway.

Queenofthejabs · 31/01/2025 09:13

No don’t do that, it makes no sense, just move up to 7.5. Do you mess with other prescription meds?

Thanks that makes sense.

You are allowed to move your injection day within the guidance, so maybe try 5 days or 6 days occasionally, but don't plan for it to be a permanent routine.

As PP have said, as the medication increases in your body, you hopefully will quite quickly find 7 days is ok.

I had some weeks where I took it every 6 days, which was enough to prevent the 2 days of needing to practice my willpower.

(I have little desire to practice my willpower whilst on MJ as I've had years of exercising my willpower already and will have the rest of my life after MJ to continue to do so.)

As ever, your prescriber is the best person to advise you.

DearOwl · 31/01/2025 09:26

Actually, you are able to inject on day 5 with guidance from your prescriber. Some pharmacies will advise on a very individual basis and there are people out there injecting every 5 days

The crucial thing is to speak to your prescriber though but as a one off I doubt you'll keel over or anything, despite what you may be told here

B2B25 · 31/01/2025 09:33

Speak to your prescriber. I doubt people on MN are suitably qualified.

Having been on it for a few months (and sticking on 5mg rather than moving up) I make good use of the less suppressed days to up my overall calories for the week.

I eat very little for the first 5 days (three small snack type meals a day high in protein, dairy and fruit/veg) and on day 5 and 6 make sure I have some hearty nutritious food like proper homemade beef stews full of veg and bone marrow, roast chicken dinner with a big free range chicken from the farmshop etc.

I've already lost the weight I wanted to though and I'm in maintenance now at BMI 24. It seems to be working well for me and I feel it's quite a healthy way of eating.

Queenofthejabs · 31/01/2025 09:38

Op, I’m on 10, my suppression is consistent throughout the whole week. You’re supposed to move up till you find your optimal dose. Mine is ten. You’re just on too low a dose and need to move up, don’t inject earlier.
