Mounjaro weight loss advice

Hi everyone,

I started mounjaro two weeks ago. The first week I had awful side effects for about 4 days. I felt human again for the rest of the week and decided to take my second dose to which I had no side effects at all.

I'm wondering if anyone has started mounjaro and had terrible side effects after a dose increase. Now I'm feeling better I'm hesitant on going through what I went through the first time.

Any advice would be great!

Yes I had on 2 occasions the very random eggy burps lasting 24 hours and sometimes diarrhoea next day on the 5 and 7.5 mj dose. Totally out of nowhere although at start of the year I thought it may have been doing dry January as well. Rennies sorted me and it was over pretty quick.

There was some posts made that it was left over food in the gut.

You've got another 2 doses before you'd need to increase your dose, and you could always decide to stay on 2.5mg if it's working for you and you're not getting any hard to handle side effects.

I've not had side effects immediately after increasing a dose, but somewhat randomly and probably related to what I ate both times. But overall I've had a few days of side effects and many weeks without any at all.

I had the worse diarrhea I have ever had, the eggy burps and heartburn for the 1st four days I was pretty much in bed the entire time. I couldn't eat anything in those 4 days. The second week I had no side effects.

I'm hoping to lose about 5st in total. The first week I had lost 2lbs. I have been eating around 1000 calories a day and as I have felt better the second week I have gotten back into exercise. Since the injections I've struggled with carbs so I'm eating a higher protein diet.

I'm hoping for a bigger weight loss result this Friday.

Yes, hence why some people increase more slowly and don’t go straight from 2.5 to 5. It’s possible to do some weeks at 3.75 by “counting clicks” on a 5mg pen.

im a bit sensitive to the gastro effects although they only tend to last 2 days after injecting. I don’t get them every week at all, but it’s a bit random and not just when I increase but is normally worse then. What I eat just before and after injecting seems to make a difference and peppermint oil capsules help neutralise the awful burps

I've been living on peppermint tea. Luckily the eggy burps stopped after the first weekend.

Have you seen some good results so far?

Yes pretty happy with progress. Started back in July and 2 stone off, a lot slower than some but I’m happy with that, BMI has gone from 35 to 30

12purplepencils · 30/01/2025 19:28

I’m only on 6mg now

BobtheMonkey · 30/01/2025 21:57

That's really good. I've struggled with weight loss for the last couple of years. I tried so much last year and got nowhere. Hopefully I will see a few more lbs tomorrow.

Hang in there even if you don’t, I didn’t see much the first few weeks and was a bit disheartened but then it does build up in your system.

’ive no idea why but some weeks when i felt side effects more I lost less weight! Its almost as if i felt it loads the first few days after injecting but then didnt feel much effect the last few days so probably overate a bit. Whereas on weeks where i feel I’ve hit the dosage sweet spot I’ve had mild suppression almost the whole week and have eaten in a controlled way the whole week.

@12purplepencils I had a very good result on the scales yesterday! 7lb loss. I know not to expect that type of loss every week but it was very encouraging yesterday.
