Restarting after a short break ?no suppression

As the title states really.
I took a 6 week break over the Christmas period. Purely because other than Christmas I have 2 DS birthdays in this time and I didn't want to struggle financially.
Anyway, I've obviously dropped back to 2.5mg from 5 and I'm not feeling the suppression like I did previously. I'd done 3 months on 2.5 and 2 on 5.
I'm unsure what to do on Saturday when my next dose is due. Do I double up and go to 5 and try to go to another provider for a second pen and then go up to 5 from the first provider as soon as I'm able (if this makes sense) or shall I just stick it out and hope it kicks in soon?

TIA!

This seems a common experience. If you take a break you aren't likely to have the same experience with the doses you did before because you are already used to them.

The 2.5 dose is to get your body used to the medication. It’s not really for suppression although some people do get suppression at that dose. So your body is used to the medication at that dose.

Why have you stayed so long on 2.5?

Queenofthejabs · 28/01/2025 17:01

Op, it won’t kick in. 2.5 is just initiate treatment,

The appetite suppression I had on the 2.5 was crazy! I discussed it after my 1st month and it was agreed that I'd see if it became less. Having read the other replies it doesn't seem this is the case usually. It was only towards the 3rd month that I felt I was becoming more hungry.

I could only order 2.5 due to it being over 4 weeks since I'd last taken it. Seems like a waste of money in that case.

No, as you need to build up to the 5, then 5 to the 7,5, they are stepping stones till you get to your optimal dose.

It is just your first dose since restarting the levels will be very low still, it will build up in the next week or two and you might feel it a bit more. You could speak to your provider for advice to see if they will recommend/prescribe 5mg without waiting the full 4 weeks, or alternatively suggest you use 2.5mg every 5-6 days to build up quicker instead, because they will know how you tolerated the drug before, but please discuss with them.

Try not to think of it as wasted money, it is still getting you towards a dose that will work for you again.

Some providers say if you have been off MJ for a month to restart on one dose less, but because you were only on 5mg, one dose less is 2.5mg. I have heard my prescriber (on a Q&A) saying they can temporarily approve using after 5-6 days if suppression is wearing off before moving up a dose. But speak to your provider and be honest with them, any decent provider will support you.

Thank you so much, this is really helpful.
I'll wait until just before the next dose is due and then speak to them!

I'm exactly the same to be honest. I was on 12.5mg before breaking started at 2.5 mg again and nothing. 5 mg nothing. 7.5 mg maybe a slight aversion and fullness starting to appear but barely anything. Now moving back to 10 again so I'm hoping it's going to kick in again soon. Hold on in there.
