Had to stop MJ suddenly, what to do next

Hi all,
I was hoping someone could offer some advice as I'm feeling lost about what I should do next!

I've had a great journey with mj so far, I have lost 3 stone since starting in September. I'm a couple of pounds off my goal weight. The last month or so have been really tough, I've had a bereavement, moved house, had a really stressful work situation (I'm in child protection so lots of sleepless nights!) and I've just recovered from this awful winter chest infection which has floored me. As I've been so ill I didn't take mj for about 3 weeks so I took 2.5 a few days ago but I'm so worried as its not really having any effect, I feel hungry and I'm eating mini eggs as I type. I'm not sure if I'll end up going back up the doses but this feels silly, should I stick with 2.5 as a kind of maintainance, or stop completely?!? I'm feeling so clueless and don't know what to do! Thanks for reading!

either way you need to do 2.5 for a month , so you may as well use your pen and then decide if you can maintain alone, if not go up to 5.

Depending on your circumstances, medical history/previous MJ use some providers will support restarting on 5mg, speak to your provider if you want to consider this.

No one supports this if you’ve been off longer than 2 weeks. Please do not post dangerous info.

WeAllHaveWings · 25/01/2025 22:59

@ThatCoralShark if you wish to ask me who does support it please go ahead but please do not jump to assumptions or accusations.

I know both Cloud and Oushk will support restarting on 5mg or even 7.5mg in certain circumstances (beyond 2 weeks) for certain patients. Which is why I advised OP to speak to their provider to see the possible options available to them from their provider. How is that "dangerous"?

The instructions in the box with the medication are standard, providers have discretion (after training with Eli Lilly) to prescribe outside of these.

Then they should not, the manufacturers are very very clear. More than 2 weeks and you need to go back to 2.5 and build up.

can you evidence that they are doing something so shoddy and putting people at risk?

WeAllHaveWings · 26/01/2025 10:49

@ThatCoralShark they are qualified professionals with training from Eli Lilly of course they can, with that training, deviate from the basic instructions based on individual patient history and needs.

Drs do it all the time with other medication, unless you have qualifications or have training from Eli Lilly yourself I'll stick with professional advice from those that know what they are talking about, thanks 🤦🏻‍♀️

IrisPallida · 26/01/2025 11:00

Yes, of course a qualified prescriber can prescribe off-licence, @WeAllHaveWings is perfectly correct.

It is also done this way for some people who are swapping to Mounjaro from another weight loss drug eg Wegovy so that they can start on a higher dose.

On the other hand it takes a few weeks to build up in your system, OP, so give it a chance to kick in again.

KitsyWitsy · 26/01/2025 11:07

I don’t know why you would stop taking it though? Do you stop taking other meds when you are ill? Why do people just stop taking Mounjaro randomly?

I think quite a few people did it so they could eat more over Xmas, the op seems to have done it for other reasons, even though it coincided.

Medexpress - Re-starting after a gap in treatment

Oushk - Flexible Plan They have recently updated their maintenance webpage to a less detailed "We'll determine the appropriate dose....", previously it said restarting on 5mg or even 7.5mg might be appropriate. They have also mentioned this in one of their lives which talked about maintenance which you can try to find if you want, or you can email them directly to ask.

Cloud - picture attached

Is this enough "evidence" for you that providers as qualified professionals have discretion beyond "you must restart at 2.5mg after 2 weeks"?

If not I would suggest you do some research before stating your own version of "facts" accusing others of being dangerous, shoddy, or putting people at risk when you are basing that off a standard inbox leaflet rather than any knowledgeable or professional qualified opinion on individual patients.
