If no effect at 2.5mg at what dose did suppression start

I am only on my second dose of MJ. I have poss minor side effects but absolutely no suppression and no weight loss. I understand that is expected as it's a non-theraputic dose. Internet and Mumsnet is full of people who it works for from day one and who lose staggering amounts of weight in first week. Which is depressing to read so I wondered where are the people who 2.5mg was non-theraputic for and when did it start to work.

I do obviously know it's not magic and I have to eat less too. I've started in that direction but point of MJ was to have hunger suppression to make that easier.

I don’t think many folks lost staggering amounts of weight in the first week, some yes, generally it they were very big, or reacted poorly, or basically underate. Most folks lost a normal amount, certainly not staggering.

the first week is usually always more than other weeks as you lose weight, this is on any diet.

you need to change your diet, and use mounjaro along side that. Basically go on a diet.

Buffypaws · 22/01/2025 08:05

yeah 2.5 is pointless amount
I didn’t feel anything until 10
I’m starting again so they are giving me 2.5. I’ll prob do the whole pen at once 😂

No33 · 22/01/2025 08:08

Did you not start to change your diet?

You need to do that.

AmythestBangle · 22/01/2025 08:16

I had no suppression in week 1. Now near the end of week 2 on 2.5mg and have only been able to eat tiny amounts all week. It's very individual.

TheSeagullsSquawk · 22/01/2025 08:26

Thanks I knew I'd get lots of diet advice. What I am really interested in is experiences - I know it's individual but all the ones I see are..'it works from day one'. Buffypaws - that is the experience I was hoping for - I will keep the faith!

I think it would be fair to say nearly every single person who lost weight in the first month also went on a diet. Yes some had high suppression, others varying amounts, but nearly all effectively dieted, eating clean, and in a calorie deficit.

There is also a certain placebo effect in the first weeks , as we are all so determined to make it work, if you rely on the drug to do the heavy lifting for you in the first weeks the chance of failure is high,

if you use it correctly, then as you move up the doses the drug really kicks in, 5mg is a shock to most people’s systems, and we need that first month to even prepare us for that.

im currently on 10, which is the dose I intend to stay on, and suppression is quite high, however I ensure I eat my calories and enough protein, if I look back to 3 months ago, the feeling on 2.5 is nothing like it is now, which makes me wonder if there was a placebo effect going on. I beleived it to be working, I wanted it to work, so it did.

you need to decide if you’re in the right head space for this. I note you say you “started in that direction” rather than you’re currently fully on that road. Which could mean you’re relying on the drug immediately. The drug is having an effect. But the real effect is when you move up.

lol I know right 😂 I lost three stone but it took about 10 months.

I actually switched from wegovy so i already had some tolerance. For you you’ll probably see suppression soonish. It should build up a bit. I def would go up the doses a bit faster if you aren’t getting wildly unwell.

its afterwards that’s the problem. i would stay on a maintence dose but I stopped as my hair was falling out.

you can go on a diet all you want but having come off literally none of my old tricks work. Resorted to dry Veganuary and eating lentils and fruit all day. Still ravenous. Cannot stop eating. I tapered off too. fat cells remember and they want to be fat again. It’s mental.

Op. Don’t move up quicker than the four weeks, this is really bad advice.

IsItSnowing · 22/01/2025 09:34

I had suppression from the beginning - didn't lose vast amounts of weight though, I've been averaging 2lbs a week. I think it was partially placebo as I was a bit nervous of eating anything 'bad' while on the jab.
More than suppression, it is lack of food noise that helps me though, so I think that may be key to people who feel effects early on. Before MJ my food noise was constant and loud, now barely registers until the end of the week.

SurreyisSunny · 22/01/2025 10:24

i haven’t gone on a diet as such but listened to what my body needs which has been suppressed by MJ.

i think the switch to 5mg is when you’ll really notice.

Ive lost almost 3 stone in 4 months and currently on 7.5mg. Id probably have lost more if I had stuck to a strict plan but this has worked for me.

DietStartsM0NDAY · 22/01/2025 11:22

Ate fairly normally in the first 4 weeks and didn't lose any weight, some suppression but nothing to write home about. I started shifting it from then on and have lost 3 and a half stone since. Keep the faith. It's not an overnight fix but give it time and it will work. It's been a game changer for me.
Good luck!

TheSeagullsSquawk · 22/01/2025 11:24

Thank you all - that is encouraging. And it's ok ShrinkingRose I promise not to be reckless I was just having some issues on being patient... It has only been 8 days.

I had some suppression on 2.5 but everyone is different and I think people are more likely to post if they have a really noticeable reaction (at least initially)

InfoSecInTheCity · 22/01/2025 12:22

As above, it's not all the Mounjaro.

Below is my diet week by week progress. I started MJ at the end of week 3, as you can see my biggest losses were before I started it, because I reduced my calories, reduced carbs and upped my water, so I lost all the retained fluid. I did find suppression started pretty quick but wonder if part of that is because I was already past the initial starving hungry phase of reducing carbs and eating more protein.

Week by week:
End of week 1 - 212.5 lbs - 5.0 lbs Loss
End of week 2 - 209.6 lbs - 2.9 lbs Loss
End of week 3 - 205.9 lbs - 3.7 lbs Loss
End of week 4 - 204.1 lbs - 1.8 lbs Loss
End of week 5 - 202.8 lbs - 1.3 lbs Loss
End of week 6 - 200.8 lbs - 2.0 lbs Loss
End of week 7 - 198.6 lbs - 2.2 lbs Loss
End of week 8 - 197 lbs - 1.6 lbs Loss
End of week 9 - 195.1 lbs - 1.9 lbs Loss
End of week 10 - 192.4 lbs - 2.7 lbs Loss
End of week 11 - 190.6 lbs - 1.8 lbs Loss
End of week 12 - 190 lbs - 0.6 lbs Loss
End of week 13 - 187.8 lbs - 2.2 lbs Loss
End of week 14 - 184.3 lbs - 3.5 lbs Loss
End of week 15 - 184.5 lbs - 0.2 lbs Gain
End of week 16 - 183.4 lbs - 1.1 lbs Loss
End of week 17 - 180.9 lbs - 3 lbs Loss
End of week 18 - 178.7 lbs - 2.2 lbs Loss
End of week 19 - 178.5 lbs - 0 lbs Stayed Same
End of week 20 - 176.8 lbs - 1.7 lbs Loss
End of week 21 - 175 lbs - 1.8 lbs Loss
End of week 22 - 173 lbs - 2 lbs Loss
End of week 23 - lbs - Loss

Wallywobbles · 22/01/2025 12:24

Ive done it very slowly and I'm definitely not a super loser. At least 3 months at each dose. Now on 7.5 and i am getting more suppression. Some days I can get a long way through the day before I feel hunger.

You do need to really listen to your body though before you put anything in your mouth. Ask do I actually want this? How will this make me feel? Am I thirsty? Is there a task that needs doing so that I can move around and not just dive into the fridge?

I sometimes prepare some high protein things at the weekend so I can have a small something rather than a meal. Eg tuna fish cake type thing. Or egg/meat based thing.
