(TMI?) Rarely need a poo since Mounjaro?

WeeklyJab · 18/01/2025 11:03

Trying not to be too scatological, but since I started 3 1/2 months ago I rarely need to go to the toilet beyond a wee.

I’m not constipated, I have no discomfort, I feel fine. But needing the loo is infrequent and, umm, minimal.

Is this normal? Anyone else experience it?

I wondered if it was like breastfed babies versus formula, where the former rarely soiled nappies because their bodies used almost everything whereas formula fed babies had more to get rid of, so to speak, so had full nappies. (I did both, so noticed a difference)

I couldn’t come up with another explanation, but it’s certainly been a bit weird.

I can't comment on the Mounjaro use, but a change in toilet habits should be medically investigated.

SoTiredDogsKeptMeAwakeAllNight · 18/01/2025 11:06

I'm going twice a day still and to be fair, my poops r more 'normal' and regular now than ever before.

It's probably fine that your pooping has reduced. After all, we r eating less! but I'd get checked out with the gp just to be sure....

Notsurename · 18/01/2025 11:17

The way Monjaro works is by suppressing appetite and slowing down your stomach emptying so having less waste and less frequent emptying of that waste is a result. Many report constipation so as long as you have no pain and your waste isn’t hard or causing you pain when you go I think your symptoms are quite common.
I normally have IBS with diarrhoea as a symptom and Monjaro almost makes me ‘normal’ in my habits!

healthybychristmas · 18/01/2025 11:29

I think you need to be very careful about this. I had a terrible time with constipation about three times and it made me feel quite ill. I would buy some over-the-counter stool softening tablets and take them but be prepared to spend quite a long time on the loo, so I wouldn't take them on a working day for instance.

WeeklyJab · 18/01/2025 11:38

@healthybychristmas - I’m not at all constipated. Drinking plenty of water so no issues there either.

Everything is normal consistency, just small and infrequent. More like rabbit droppings than having a big poo, and every other day rather than a couple of times a day.

Calorie intake has dropped by over 1500 a day, given what an absolute food-hoover I was. (God, I miss cheese and wine and olives!) A lot fewer carbs, less fat (well, cheese and hummus) a bit less fruit and veg, a bit more protein (fish and seafood, eggs, tofu)

I'm finding the same but am only a week on. Figured it's the cutting down of food. I drink plenty of liquid and don't feel constipated so not too bothered really!

rainydaysaway · 18/01/2025 11:40

Same here - I’ve added daily prunes and that’s helped!

Magamaga · 18/01/2025 11:48

Are you getting enough fibre? Rabbit drops means constipation.

RobinEllacotStrike · 18/01/2025 12:02

You are constipated- there doesn't have to be pain involved.

🥝🥝 (2kiwis) a day keeps me regular on MJ. Give it a go.

TulipLilyRose · 18/01/2025 12:41

Me! I was going to post the same. I'll be trying kiwis. I figure I'm eating way less. I'm also going to try and drink more water.

Redlightbulb · 18/01/2025 12:59

I wouldn't say I was constipated but the frequency of my poops is definitely less than before MJ and they don't slide out so easily (not rabbit droppings)
Definitely need to up my fruit intake. I have barely eaten any fruit since starting MJ 5 months ago.
I still eat well but as there is near zero snacking between meals I just don't eat it.

InfoSecInTheCity · 18/01/2025 13:12

I take 2 psyllium husk capsules before lunch every day with a big glass of water. It helps keep me regular and forces me to drink a big glass of water. So far that's worked really well for me for the last few months.

Less frequency and volume is to be expected with less food intake, but the consistency you are describing would suggest some level of constipation so adding some more fibre wouldn't be a bad idea.

I probably dropped quite a bit of fibre because I don’t eat big lentil stews and curries etc as often. But they aren’t hard pellets and they pass extremely easily; they are just small.

Again, sorry if TMI.

I drink loads of water and always have, so it’s definitely nothing to do with lack of hydration. I love cold water to drink.

edited for typo

That is constipation. Try some flax seeds or a small amount of all bran. Don’t over do the all bran!

WeeklyJab · 18/01/2025 13:51

Ok, thanks everyone. More fruit and pulses for me!

I'm on my third month of MJ, and go far less because I eat far less, and I eat much much protein and less carbs.
I got terrible constipation for a while - even lots of physillium husks didn't do the trick.

It's dangerous not to go regularly so you should be mindful,

I've now got Mag07 from Amazon which is a bowel cleanse - two tablets before bed and bingo in the morning!

thesaskedminger · 18/01/2025 16:16

I used to go every day and I'm every other day now. I eat much less than before so it makes sense to me.

Adelstrop · 19/01/2025 08:44

Constipation is a common side effect, and doesn't necessarily involve pain or even discomfort (in my experience). It shouldn't be ignored for too long, but before going to the GP I would try upping your water intake and using something like fybogel which is quite gentle (tablets to chew or sachets to dilute with water).

Mollysay · 19/01/2025 08:56

Add some flax seed to water/plain yoghurt and it'll get things moving. Constipation doesn't have to be painful or mean rock hard poop, you don't want things festering in your digestive system. MJ slows the digestive process down and you're eating less so it's not wild be less regular, but you still want things moving through nicely to avoid issues.

Yes rabbit dropping formation is constipation

YOu dont necessarily have pain or other symptoms

You need more fibre. Magnesium is also helpful

FlappingMadly · 19/01/2025 09:10

Lentils, olives, humus are all good foods- no need to drop them. I would increase veg rather than fruit but either perfect for fibre.

They are, it’s the associated wine and cheese (olives) and shedload of pitta bread (hummus, though I could swap to veg sticks) that meant I had stopped eating them.

Lentils is just me being lazy. I haven’t made dhal or chilli in weeks. I shall up my game.
