Big itchy red mark where I injected (Mounjaro)

MounjaroUser1233 · 16/01/2025 21:52

I've never had this before; this is my 1st week on 10mg so week 13 of doing MJ and I have done Ozempic for about 6m a couple of years ago also.
I have always injected into my belly. But this time I injected a big closer to the centre / navel as opposed to the side / love handles area. It is insanely itchy and about 2 x 1 inches. I think I might have injected onto or near a stretch-mark. Could this be why it's caused this reaction? It's been 24 hrs now and if anything it's looking redder than it was yesterday!

It’s a common side effect, anti histamines and anti histamine cream You will likely get it every time now, for the next few weeks. It’s an anti histamine reaction,

InkHeart2024 · 16/01/2025 22:02

Yeah a lot of users develop a histamine response, it's quite annoying! Anti histamines as pp said

pickleslag · 16/01/2025 22:03

I often get this, mostly on the 5 jab.

Antihistamine tablet really helped. I didn't have any anti itch cream so I put vagisil on it, that helped too 🤣🤣

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 16/01/2025 22:24

Mine just started out of nowhere too after months of using MJ. It happens every time now, some weeks are worse than others. It's itchy as hell.

Peridot1 · 16/01/2025 22:39

I’ve had it too. I used Eurax cream which helped. And a few months in it’s not so bad. Only itches for a day or so rather than almost the whole week!

Orangesandlemons82 · 16/01/2025 22:40

I get this every time I inject now. I put some sudocreme on it and it seems to help.

CornishPorsche · 16/01/2025 23:00

Same, but have had it with every jab. I get it with my Aimovig as well.

Hydrocortisone cream does the trick for me.

Injecting into my stomach seems to be much less itchy though.

InstagramMounjaroJourneyUK · 16/01/2025 23:04

Yep same here from roughly 10mg onwards too. I alternate thighs and the itch from one leg goes when I inject the other side! Then the itch and red patch comes to new leg after a few days, it seems to get worse sometimes as a new injection is due 🤔 but yes a big round, itchy red patch. Thankfully mine isn't too itchy for too long.

flobbynomore · 17/01/2025 07:12

Mine started out of nowhere too about 3 months in, and is worst on about the third day after injecting. Happens every time and takes about 2 weeks to fade. Weird how it started all of a sudden - I was freaked out but as others have said, apparently it’s quite common.

CatsorDogsrule · 17/01/2025 07:26

Mine started on my 6th injection and only started to die down on my 30th. Now I don't need the pills and might dab on some cream once or twice after the injection.

Antihistamine pills and creams reduce the reaction. A longer needle might help, so 6mm or even 8mm rather than 4mm, but didn't work for me.

Thanks everyone for your replies x
It is so strange for me as I'd already injected 12 times with absolutely no side-effects. But seems like a reaction can start out of the blue and randomly. I wonder what causes it to suddenly make you allergic?! So weird 😕

I think you build up antibodies to it, so the reaction is considered a sign of a working/ healthy immune system.

Oh that's cool! I have very little knowledge of stuff like this so thank you 🥰 x

I’ve posted about exactly the same problem today! I’ve had no reactions in 16 weeks apart from my last 2 where I’ve had this itchy raised red area where I inject. Another poster has suggested it could be to do with the length of the needle. It coincides perfectly to when I changed my provider! I’m going to change needles and see if that makes a difference.

DolceT · 17/01/2025 20:31

I’ve just done dose 31 and haven’t had an injection site rash for a while now - can’t remember when it stopped but had it the first time I did my thigh (wk 9) and then went back to abdomen - definitely had it there week 13 through 16 (and I am pretty sure beyond that) at some point it stopped but I also stopped recording my symptoms/things like this so not sure when exactly. I remember trying thigh again and it was worse there so never tried it again.

Mysticmaiden2024 · 18/01/2025 01:43

I had it weekly for 3 months until I started leaving the pen to warm up for 1hr or so before injecting. Was big and very itchy. All fine now!

TallGirl24 · 18/01/2025 12:57

I got this out of the blue for a few weeks after having no reaction initially. It stopped as quickly as it started after a few weeks, I wouldn't worry.
