Mounjaro, second dose 2.5mg, my appetite has jut disappeared…

So I took my second dose on Friday lunch and I don’t know if it’s just because I am feeling really anxious / on edge at the moment or whether the suppression has kicked in but honestly I feel like I don’t want to eat anything. My tummy feels like it’s hungry but nothing is taking my fancy. Yesterday I could barely eat anything, I had a bagel, two coffees and a few crisps.

I don’t want to end up getting myself in a state due to not eating enough…. is this normal??

You need to make an effort to eat the right things. Get your protein in. You will end up losing muscle if not. Bagels, coffee and crisps are not making healthy changes.

brawhen · 12/01/2025 16:14

I had very low appetite the first few days following each of my first few doses. Made myself eat, but could easily have got by on less than a 'fasting' 800 cal.

I don't think it's going to do you any harm if it's just the occasional few days. Make sure you keep drinking. If you feel grumpy, eat a bit (for me that can be a sign of low energy)

Shmee1988 · 12/01/2025 16:18

I am exactly the same today. Not alot of suppression last week, took my 2nd 2.5 on Thursday and today I can't find anything I want. I went to the gym this morning so had a banana. A lunch had some snack a jacks. My tummy feels hungry now and I'm making a roast so maybe once it's in front of me I'll want some

MymateDave · 12/01/2025 16:20

I was the same all month on 2.5. I Bought some protein yogurts and ate chicken & bananas. Was all I could tolerate. Small amounts at a time. I also bought some clear whey to drink. And got my vitamins in x

mounjaro2025 · 12/01/2025 16:25

So relieved to hear it’s not just me. Honestly I’d normally be thinking about what takeaway I would be getting tonight and just like the thought of food is giving me absolutely nothing?

@Shmee1988 I felt like I had very little suppression last week and all of a sudden it’s like I can’t eat!

DarkForces · 12/01/2025 16:27

Don't panic. Keep drinking and focus on getting calories from good food. I find I love a simple chicken and feta salad since starting mj. It does calm down once you settle in to taking it

mounjaro2025 · 12/01/2025 16:51

I definitely am panicking I think 😳

You might not WANT anything to eat but if you sit down with a reasonable amount of food (don’t over serve or it’ll make you stressed!) you should be able to eat it.

Do not waste whatever appetite you do have on crap like crisps and a bagel will fill you up for too few nutrients. Try eating eggs/chicken/fish/yoghurt etc instead of carbs.

murraymcgill · 12/01/2025 17:00

@MymateDave I started November and that's all I eat I look at food then change my mind

Onceachunkymonkey · 12/01/2025 17:04

Just sit down and eat, in my experience you can. Part of this is psychological.

it’s hugely important to eat, and ensure you ger enough protein , otherwise you lose muscle. And losing muscle is very dangerous, it leads to a shortened life, and many issues as you age, from being unable to stand up or support yourself. And you need to exercise.

its really important when starting this you know what needs doing and doing it, otherwise by the time you finish the journey you will have some very significant health problems.

ThirdStorm · 12/01/2025 17:05

Totally normal in the first few weeks. Protein drinks were my friend. I was 5 stone overweight so a short period of eating not much wasn’t going to do any long term damage IMHO. I made sure I kept hydrated.

mounjaro2025 · 12/01/2025 19:07

So it’s normal to want to really only eat like 500 calories a day?

God not for me, and looking at the what I ate thread not for many others, I eat about 13- 1400 a day, always have done from the start

DarkForces · 12/01/2025 19:22

I'm 5'3 so need to keep it low to see any significant improvement in my weight so aim for around 1000 a day. It should settle but don't move up until some hunger returns

mounjaro2025 · 12/01/2025 19:23

My stomach feels hungry but honestly even going to make food, I just don’t want to eat or stomach it. What is going on 😢

Ahbist0 · 12/01/2025 19:26

You will be fine. People do 36 hour fasts for health. I’m not suggesting you do that but certainly don’t be stressed. You are just adjusting to the drug building up in your body. As people say here just try to prioritise protein and fibre if you can. That will be important in the long term.

DarkForces · 12/01/2025 19:26

Are you sure it's not ibs? It could be a reaction to anxiety. I'd try meditating to see if you can tune into it then a simple chicken salad or with veg or some plain yoghurt. Avoid carbs and focus on nutritious simple foods.

SilenceInside · 12/01/2025 19:53

I can have this sort of feeling for the first day or two after each injection. I try to have easily available things that I don't need to think about too much, and that are protein based.

Even if you don't feel hungry at all, eat something at each meal time even if only very small.

Mounjaro sends signals to your brain that you're full and that there's no need to eat. That's what's happening, it's the intended effect. It just takes a bit of getting used to. It's not something to panic about, or get anxious about.

Did you not research what happens when you take these drugs?

You need to work out how many calories you need per day to be in deficit and plan your meals to that level. You need to eat properly especially protein or you will lose lean mass. What exercise are you doing?

NewLifter · 12/01/2025 20:03

I've had days like that in MJ for sure. I've always focused on nutrition though so if I only had 700 calories, every single calorie was nutrient dense.

Usually you can manage more later in the week, so try and balance it out over the week. Occasionally, I delayed my next dose by a day or two if suppression was still high.

murraymcgill · 12/01/2025 20:13

I agree. Focus on eating healthy, protein packed food and plenty (as much as you can) veg. A bit of complex cards would do any harm either. I have found the total lack of interest in food quite refreshing and surprising. I wish I could always eat for the sake of fueling my body and not associate food with comfort 😩.

If that's true, I can guarantee you are NOT 'fine' 😔

9ToGoal · 12/01/2025 20:28

Read the information that was provided by the pharmacy who prescribed it @mounjaro2025. 500kcals is not normal. It's not sustainable and will cause you bowel problems.

Plan your meals the day before. Priority on lean protein and fibre.

Get rid of the bagels and crisps in the house.
