Hi everyone,

I was on 2.5 of Mounjaro injection for a month, I stopped because I was getting cramping. Which started after maybe 3rd week. My tests and bloods at hospital didn’t confirm anything and luckily not pancreatitis at that point so just bad cramping from it. I stopped and I’ve continued to lose because it put into good habits. I started off at 15st 5 and on that month got to 14st. I had my gallbladder removed so wasn’t that either.

I just wondered now could I possibly start it again for one month, just to get me down to that 13st ideally and then take it myself from there, as I hate injecting Or is this more long term intended use.
if I don’t go on is there any other way to keep me going without slacking into old habits!

thanks

I have heard of someone doing this for maintenance, but not generally before that. Why do you think having one month off will help, I don't quite understand?

If you are staying on 2.5mg which is the starting dose I suppose you could just start a new order for it therefore not have to take it every month. As long as you are staying in the correct weight category?

If there was no cause for the cramping, which I assume was severe if you ended up in hospital), found what did the Drs at hospital and/or your GP advise about continued MJ use?

I know you say you have had your gallbladder removed, but that doesn't mean you cannot still get stones, they would be called bile duct stones instead, but as you have had stones before, or because some previously small stones might have been left behind after surgery you are predisposed to them.

What you are looking for now is actual medical advice which noone on MN is qualified or in possession of all the facts to give. You need to discuss your history, the findings from your hospital stay with either your Dr or your provider and get their advice on any risks starting MJ again. If you want to try one month on/off you should also discuss with with your provider along with your history.

GPs opinions vary throughout the country some seem really for this and others are against, especially when it's privately prescribed. I went with a trusted pharmacy. My GP said previously it was my choice on whether I continued at that point I did stop, to see if things settled.

I guess now the cramping could've been ovulation pains or the mounjaro but it didn't do serious harm as such, ie if it had I'd not consider it :)

Nothing wrong with one month on and off if it works for you but I'd discuss this with your prescribing pharmacist. They're knowledgeable about Mounjaro (often more knowledgeable about it and other medication than some GPs) and will be in the best position to advice what you need to do now from a Mounjaro + your other health condition standpoint. They'll be able to approve the one month on and off too if it's best for you.
