Heartburn and Mounjaro

When i’m controlling my calorie intake and eat healthier i always develop heartburn. Not sure if it’s due to hunger or the acidity.
Im wondering those who have tendencies to develop heartburn, did you get it while eating less on mounjaro?

Not had that problem myself but a friend of mine had terrible heartburn. She had it on and off for a month. It was at the beginning of her weight loss journey and she hasn't had it since, been on Mounjaro over 4 months now.

Tums is my favourite remedy for heartburn/ acid. If that doesn't work, or I've left it too late, Esomeprazole usually works well. Both available to buy from supermarket, pharmacy or online from Amazon etc.

I used some Tums in the first couple of months on MJ, but haven't needed them in the last 3 or 4 months.

I am the same but get acid reflux along with it.
I think it is because if I am not on a diet / healthy eating, I am usually binge eating and my body has adapted by producing more acid so when I go on a diet it is still producing the same amount of acid for a few weeks as it is expecting a binge. This effect has gone away somewhat.. but due to MJ affecting how long it takes for your stomach to empty I still get some acid reflux / heartburn.. usually it is at it's worst the first couple of days after injecting. It isn't as bad as it would be if I had just normally started a diet if that makes sense. Not binged for 5 months. Yay me.

thanks @Redlightbulb i’m the same. I’ve reached rock bottom with my weight so this is my chance to sort it out and the pressure of how much it’s costing hoping will make it work.
Well done on doing so well and good luck to shedding everything you want 😊

Thank you. I was really struggling as well. I had lost 6 stone just before Covid and then piled it back on over the next couple of years plus some extra. I couldn't break out of the binge eating cycle until MJ. So I am very thankful for that. It scares me coming off but I don't plan to until I am at goal for at least a year. Even then I might be on this for a lot longer than that.
I really hope it works for you and yes it is expensive.

Have you tried being active even just washing up and hoovering type thing immediately after eating?

Papergirl1968 · 29/12/2024 22:48

I'm on Mounjaro and have heartburn/acid reflux/indigestion when I've eaten too much or too late, or too much rich or fatty food. Similar to pre mounjaro really if I had a binge, but now much smaller amounts of food will cause it. Sometimes I do throw up - not deliberately but it helps with the discomfort so it's actually a relief.
Sleeping slightly propped up on pillows can help and good old Rennie.
It is a deterrent to stuffing my face if I know I'll have a uncomfortable night, but yeah, I still have the odd lapse.

Also eating after dinner can give me heartburn. But mist helpful for me is plenty water and moving after eating (this is also good for blood sugars for anyone coming off MJ). .

I also had a bit of a heartburn on a few occasions at the very beginning of the weight loss journey. Luckily, in my case it wasn't too bad. I didn't even need medication for it.

Thank you. I used to suffer with heartburn but not so much when i eat ‘normally’ but then i pile on the weight.
I haven’t started MJ yet but started the diet i’m hoping to follow once on it and the heartburn has already kicked in and it’s making me feel i’m hungry so it’s even more difficult to sustain.
Ordered some tums as recommended so fingers crossed it’s going to help
