3 days of diarrhoea on mounjaro

Took my first dose of mounjaro on Saturday and since Monday (today is wednesday), I've had diarrhoea. It just comes out of nowhere. I'm eating very plain foods, not eating a couple of hours before going to bed, drinking a good amount of water, avoiding caffeine and alcohol. This morning id had enough and took an immodium which hasn't stopped it. Do you think it will get better? I'm dreading my next dose.

It's a very common side effect, although I never had it myself. Im sure it will pass.

I had this reaction when I started Ozempic. It used to be on and off for a couple of days after each dose in the first month and then after each increase, so once a month. By the 3rd month, no symptoms at all. When I went on to MJ I found I was prone to the opposite problem if I didn’t drink lots of water.

I am fairly confident that the first week will be your worst and that with each week until your next dose increase it should be less and less acute - by the the second month, it was literally just one loose bowel movement with a tiny bit of urgency about 49hrs after the jab, so I used to take it on a Friday night so that I was home, doing nothing on Sunday when it hit. I know others will have had more serious reactions, but most people I know have had found the symptoms pass quickly as their body adjusts.

I’d also chat to your provider over what you are eating? I found that having a small bowl of oatflakes for roughage helped. Although you are encouraged to limit carbs/increase protein, it’s best to gradually change your diet so I wouldn’t cut carbs out entirely at this stage if it’s a main source of fibre too.

I had the same, it lasted about 4 days. I was unwilling to have another week like that so I took a half dose for the second week. That worked well for me and I had enough suppression that I stayed on half doses for weeks. Even now on week 15 I’m only on just under 3. I’m just really sensitive to it it seems. I’ve lost 30 pounds so it works well enough for me. Hope you feel better soon.

Following. I'm on 2.5mg W2 D4 and I've had non-stop diarrhoea for 48 hours now. I'm exhausted! I'm having one small meal a day.
Worried about taking my next jab on Monday and feeling like this over Christmas.

I must be 2 days ahead of you and yesterday was my first day of feeling ok. I may however be bunged up now so opposite issue! I know what you mean, I'm thinking about injecting this evening (one day early) so maybe I'll just get the nasty side effects Sunday/Monday...it's all a bit of a gamble isn't it? I know it's early but I can't imagine going up a dose in Jan!

@Lifeissuchabind yeah it really does feel like trial and error.
I'm concerned about going up to 5mg too. I think if I continue to lose weight on 2.5mg I might remain on it for January. I've lost 11lbs since starting less than two weeks ago.

Oh gosh sorry! I completely misread that. I missed that you were on week 2. How did you feel week 1? I thought (foolishly!) that I may have got the worst over with by next week.

@Lifeissuchabind week one wasn't too bad! Nausea and fatigue on day one, but rest of the week was fine! I think it's so different for everyone, so you may be fine next week!

PinkArt · 20/12/2024 13:38

Mine was explosive in week one, pretty bad but better in week two and relatively fine since then (jab 7 today). This week it's actually gone more the other way. I have IBS-D so am used to that urgency but was stressed that it was going to continue like that. It's just your body adjusting to the new medication, so give it a bit longer to see if it's just teething problems or your new default.

2Tired4Anything · 20/12/2024 13:57

Quite common and it does settle usually, I think you can buy some over the counter medicine from a pharmacy to help, Imodium?

BerfyTigot · 17/05/2025 12:20

Terrible diarrhoea here too. It's just leaking out of me. Took drug tues pm. By Thurs am Terrible diarrhoea. Took imodium and barely ate. Fri was fine and I ate normally though a lot less. Diarrhoea back today. Have had a cup of tea and a small cup of skimmed milk. 😥

I could have written this. Took first dose last Tues night and by Thurs morning I had awful diarrhoea. I've just injected my second dose and I am SO nervous it will happen again. If it does I dont think I could continue... just wondering how things have been for you since?

Quitelikeit · 01/07/2025 22:09

I have the opposite issue I’m permanently constipated on this drug !

BerfyTigot · 01/07/2025 22:24

@PeppyFawn I have reduced my dose to 1.25 and always make sure I have plenty of immodium around. I still have loose bowels but it doesn't run out of me in the same way.

Good luck!

Ameliazzza · 01/09/2025 20:57
