Wegovy - pls help! What's going on? I can't leave the house.

Been on wegovy since April 24, losing slowly but steadily. About 1lb a week.

Always suffered from bad constipation on it, so stuck with fairly low dose never going over 1.25.

Something has changed. Side effects are suddenly really bad. Starts with constipation (as usual). Then I get really foul sulphur burps and feel v bloated. About 24 hrs later I throw up and get the most horrendous diarrhoea. Going over 10x a day, completely liquid, no warning. I have to be a few steps from bathroom. Can't even risk going in garden.

Last week the diarrhoea lasted for 4 days. I reduced my dose this week to 1mg and took it few days late to allow my system to recover. But it's happened again.

Does anyone have this? What do you do? Does anything help?

It's like my body stops processing food and my intestines just gets more and more bunged up until it gets toxic (sulphur burps) and just explodes for a few days. Then starts again.

I have no idea why this is suddenly happening after being on it for months and am really struggling. I had to pull out of 2 Xmas events last week. And had family bring me food this week as I really can't risk leaving the house. This can't go on! Am I going to have to stop taking it?

I was on wegovy before moving to MJ and I never had this, I was sick everyday for two months though. Ate you sure it's not norovirus?

somedogsdo · 13/12/2024 21:11

Thanks both. The first time I thought maybe Norovirus. But the exact same thing happened 2 days after injecting as last time. Constipation/Sulphur burps/then D&V mainly D within 24 hrs. And I've had a week of being fine in between. So it must be the Wegovy I think.

But it seems v odd to suddenly happen after being on it for 8 months.

Have you changed what you are eating perhaps? I'm on mounjaro and eating too much sugar or fat seems to set me off!

Not wegovy info but very liquid diar. can be "overflow" caused by constipation.

I was going to say this. You can be impacted with constipation and then poo desperate to come out overflows in the form of liquid. It sounds a bit like this with the bloating and rotten smell.

An x ray would show impaction/ chronic constipation. You've got to be careful not to take anti squits meds if impacted and you don't want anti constipation meds without knowing for sure.

The GP cannot rule this in or out by feeling your stomach but will no doubt try. If it persists I'd really push for it to be investigated properly.

My mum had similar symptoms a few years ago (not related to any drug) and it was the start of a pancreas issue. I think it’s worth contacting a Dr with your symptoms.

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 13/12/2024 21:36

I’m not on any weight loss injections but I am a nurse, and the first thing I thought was that it sounds like overflow constipation.

somedogsdo · 13/12/2024 22:00

Thanks for the replies - much appreciated. I also wondered about the overflow constipation thing as have read about it. But in the first whoosh of diarrhoea there was some normal looking solid stool (apols if TMI!) and I'm thinking this wouldn't be the case if there was a blockage with overflow?

I've left a message with Boots online doc again. They suggested Imodium last time but I didn't take it - as others have suggested, it feels like it all stems from getting completely bunged up so I didn't want to potentially make it worse.

Feel a bit silly going to the proper GP with a self-inflicted issue if that makes sense.

I think you're absolutely mad to carry on injecting yourself with something causing your body to react like this. That said I do hope you're better soon as it sounds awful!

Pancreatitis is on the serious side effects list, take note of @RaisinforBeing s post
I know it's hard to go to the GP about this but a bit of embarrassment or having a difficult conversation is worth it for your health 💐

Tittat50 · 13/12/2024 22:08

Go back to the GP OP! It's not self inflicted though is it. It's possibly an unwanted side effect of this which you have a right to know about without feeling guilty in any way.

In the current climate of fobbing people off you have got to be assertive because you end up taking the wrong thing and end up worse.

Having small poo bits doesn't mean there's no impaction there. But you need to know. Remember that a GP feeling your stomach does not rule out impaction! Do not let any GP tell you this.
If it's chronic constipation they usually prescribe movicol or lactulose to see if that normalises everything and breaks up the impacted shit.

A soft belly doesn't rule this out either btw if GP tries that. The pharmacy is not the place for advice here. The GP is the next step.

How are you doing OP? Hope you are feeling better

DollyD83 · 15/12/2024 12:35

I am on Mj and this seems fairly common. I have a few days hard to go then it’s the other way. Seems very common side effects. My Gps said it’s likely the jab.
