Mounjaro ready to collect tomorrow

Sheselectrix · 10/12/2024 09:58

I'm collecting my first mounjaro injections tomorrow and I wanted some guidance on when to start it. I wanted to start Friday as the sooner the better but I have a hair appointment on Saturday so I worried about needing the loo....

If I start Sunday, I feel I'll be better equipped to deal with any symptoms working from home Monday/Tuesday. Any advice?

I do Sunday night as I WFH Mondays and Tuesdays.

CatFestivus · 10/12/2024 10:03

Wait til Sunday because everyone is different with how they respond. When I first started it, it felt like I had the flu. Or you might feel fine. But there’s no way of knowing.

SilenceInside · 10/12/2024 10:11

It would be very unlucky to experience urgent digestive issues on your first dose of 2.5mg. Most people feel absolutely fine, or have very minor side effects on the first 2.5mg dose. It can help to avoid heavy, large, fatty, sugary, carby meals for a day or two before injecting, as Mounjaro slows down your digestive transit, so you don't want that sort & quantity of food hanging around for longer than normal.

Personally I would take it on Friday, but also fine to wait till Sunday if you prefer.

Harrumphju · 10/12/2024 10:44

I'd take it on Sunday when you're better equipped. You may be one of the few people who do experience issues immediately. Like @CatFestivus said, there's no way of knowing and no one can tell if you will or not. Better safe than sorry. It's not like you're putting it off for 2 weeks - Sunday is quite close to Friday so save yourself the worry and just take it on Sunday, then you can be more relaxed about it all.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 10/12/2024 10:49

I’d go for Friday so you have the whole weekend to get used to any effects of you have them. It’s highly unlikely to have any impact on a hair appointment on Saturday and why wait?

Beentheredonethat0 · 10/12/2024 10:49

Oh good luck with it. Let us know how you get on. I'm considering trying it myself, but thought I'd wait until after Xmas. I've put on weight recently and suddenly as my much loved pet doggy died and I've been grieving and very upset.

All the best with it OP

I find taking it in the evening works well for me!

colesr · 10/12/2024 10:53

I put mine off for a couple of weeks because I was worried about side effects, looking back I think I was just scared to take the plunge. I had no side effects, 6 weeks in I haven't had any toilet issues, or sickness. I did change my diet completely and no longer eat fatty/spicey foods and I don't drink alcohol or fizzy drinks which I feel may be the reason. A lot of people I see struggling are still eating the same carry meals and takeaways, just less of it.

I would take it asap and be mindful to stick to a blandish diet for the first few days

Harrumphju · 10/12/2024 10:56

@Sheselectrix Remember that no one can guarantee how likely or unlikely it would affect you and they won't be there with you if it does, so I'd make your decision based on your own comfort level and not on a gamble or how many other people could be affected or not. Besides, not everyone who was affected has posted that they were anyway. Goodluck on starting Mounjaro. X

Thanks all! If I were to start Saturday morning just before my 10am appointment, would I be pretty unlikely to feel anything in the first few hours?

No one can guarantee what you'll likely feel or not - it's only guesswork. People have different reactions to this medicine at any time.

If your appt is in the morning, why don't you start afterwards when you get home? It would still be on Saturday.

Just do it after.

WeAllHaveWings · 10/12/2024 12:39

I did my first injection Saturday afternoon, and have stuck to Saturdays and do it at any point during the day.

It really is individual when you inject, you could get side effects quickly, or might not get them for 3 days or more. I'd do it after hairdressers if you are concerned.

Wegovypictures · 10/12/2024 15:18

Honestly having been on injections for a year, I think you'd be nuts to start before Christmas.

You don't know how you'll react and it would be rubbish to spend Christmas (if you celebrate it) unwell and unable to enjoy any food at all

I’d do the opposite and just start. Most people have very manageable side effects , especially at low doses.

Jackiepumpkinhead · 10/12/2024 18:30

I had mine for about a week before I plucked up the courage to use it. I injected on a Friday when I had a quiet weekend where I could stay at home if I wanted to. I needn’t have worried, I had very little side effects.

Bellyblueboy · 10/12/2024 21:05

Why not just take it tomorrow night?

There will always be a low risk of side effects but it would be unusual they would be debilitating - I actually got mine (headache) five days after first injection.

for me, maximum suppression kicks in 48hrs after my injection. So I take a shot on Thursday night and that manages unhealthy habits at the weekend.

morbidcuriosity · 10/12/2024 21:42

Start as soon as you get home! as you say, the sooner the better..

you never know how you will react or what side effects you will get, i was lucky with no nasty side effects, but a few weeks in i got some constipation, but that was easily solved with more drugs! lol..

go for it!
