Not losing on mounjaro, even at 7.5 :(

Ok, so I know I have not been trying as hard as a i can.

I do IF to some extent which means I don't usually eat until 11 or 12.

My diet coke addiction is slowly diminishing but still there.

I do feel like I am eating smaller portions but the scales are not budging.

Still have a sweet tooth.

Still at the same weight as I was the day I started.

Does mounjaro just not work on some people?

Should I switch to a different med? Take a break? keep going?

I have heard that it doesn’t work for some. I’m on 7.5mg and often have to just stop mid meal because I can’t stomach another bite. Or I will open the fridge and just say ‘nope’
Do you ever feel like that?

colesr · 03/12/2024 18:36

Have you changed your diet? Eating in a calorie deficit?

whateveryousay · 03/12/2024 18:39

I have been on MJ for 4 weeks now, and have had excellent appetite supression, and have maintained a good calorie deficit (track everything). I lost 8lbs in first two weeks, and nothing since 😬

Peony15 · 03/12/2024 18:54

You need to work out how many calories you need daily.
tdeecalculator.net/

You need to eat less calories than you need. Here is where people come unstuck, thinking the consume less than their daily intake to maintain weight , but don't.

Then you need to log everything, every nibble , drink inc alcohol etc.
It's quite eyeopening , the calorie counts once you write it down.
You also
find your weak
spots e.g alcohol =
the munchies = next day cravings.

You probably think you eat less calories but are not.
Guessing that's the reason you're not losing.

Lose it app is quite good, think many use my fitness pal.
I'm only on 2.5, my calorie intake should be 1824.
Averaged 1400 daily , counting every single thing I consumed ( intended on much less admittedly ) lost 11 pound in 3 weeks.
Don't have a sweet tooth at all but used to get carb cravings. Chromium supplements help with both.

I’ve heard there are some people it doesn’t work for…maybe ask to be put on a different one

SilenceInside · 03/12/2024 19:09

You are probably eating less than you were, so you are no longer gaining weight but you are probably eating a maintenance level of calories hence the not losing weight. I would track everything you eat and drink for a week and work out whether you are actually in a calorie deficit or not, according to your TDEE as @Peony15 says.

Some people don't have much effect until the higher doses, 10, 12.5 or 15mg. Remember that the Mounjaro itself doesn't produce weight loss, it's the effect on your appetite and the resulting reduction in calories consumed.

ThatSchoolOfficeLady · 03/12/2024 19:13

In trials 15% of people were not responsive to Mounjaro.

Bornnotbourne · 03/12/2024 19:25

Our friend switched from MJ to Wegovy and it worked. I thought it was the same thing but clearly not.

BrunchBarBandit · 03/12/2024 21:03

I’m similar. I’m on 10mg and have only lost 10lbs since July. I don’t really have any appetite suppression and I’ve had terrible side effects at 24-48 hrs after I inject each week for the last 6 weeks.

I’m thinking of giving up at the end of this pen if nothing changes 😢

ticketstickets · 03/12/2024 21:31

thanks all. I don't have terrible side effects unless I overeat, then I get heartburn. Sometimes constipation but a laxative fixes that quickly.

I do know how to diet, I was hoping this would just make it so much easier!

I still feel hungry, maybe a bit less hungry that before.

Maybe I will change to wegovy.

I would be ok with slow loss but I have lost nothing at all. But I haven't gained.

You use it as a tool to help you eat less and healthier.

Alongside jabs, I have stopped my Pepsi Max addiction, calorie count everything so I know I’m getting a deficit. The mounjaro means I don’t have cravings and binge when tired or stressed. It doesn’t completely do the work for you it assists you and makes the life changes less challenging and more doable.

IrisPallida · 03/12/2024 22:16

'Eating smaller portions' won't work if they are still larger than the amount of calories you need.

I do know how to diet, I was hoping this would just make it so much easier!

Yes, you do need to actually diet, and yes, it will make it easier to keep to the diet. But if you are hoping that the medication will make fat disappear by itself, then no, it doesn't work like that.

I am afraid that some of the advice given on some Facebook groups, and almost ALL the advice given by those hamster brains on Tiktok is leading people to expect this. Or to believe that the drug works by 'appetite suppression' which is actually only a side effect that many do not get, or only get in the beginning or only when changing dose.

The drug works by causing satiety and helping control cravings. However it is still possible to ignore that and to eat too many calories.

IrisPallida · 03/12/2024 22:24

I still feel hungry, maybe a bit less hungry that before.

Hunger is not the enemy. You are meant to feel hungry. Feeling hungry is the signal that you need to eat. This drug does not cause your hunger to go away. When you feel hungry then you need to get something to eat. If you make a calorie counted nutritious and delicious meal and eat it, then you should feel that you have had a meal, that you have had enough to eat, and that you can stop eating because you are satisfied - that is the way the drug works.

If you want something to stop you feeling hungry, perhaps because you secretly want to eat very, very little - well, that is an eating disorder calling to you. How many tiktokkers can you spot who have an eating disorder and who are trulling for others to join them in that particular corner of Hell?

Dietingfool · 04/12/2024 07:44

Op on all of them you need to diet, and it feels like it does work for you, you are less hungry, simply you’re overriding those feelings and consuming as you did before. Changing to wegovy wont make a difference.

Hey, this is my second week on mounjaro on the starting dose. I've literally cut out anything high is sugar and fat. I was a bugger for chocolate and energy drinks. I didn't really eat much before this but the meals I did eat before my journey wasn't always that heathly or would be. Now I eat three small meals after my injection and on day 5/6 I do four small meals all consisting of protein. Eggs have come a big part of my life now. I swapped milk for alpro milk. I don't eat anything white bread based. So brown with no added sugar. I eat shredded wheat with fruit. Or I eat bananas on toast most mornings. I do eat three different fruit daily. And use my slow cooker to cook things from scratch so I know what's in there. I also try and get in 12,000-13,000 daily. With Sunday being my chill lazy day. I do believe the less calories you eat the more it work's the more calories you burn also has a positive impact too. Last week I ate shy on 800 calories two days after my first injection that day i had to force myself to eat three tiny meals I consumed 806 calories but throughout the day I burnt just under 1,400 calories. So that day even though I did eat even though I didn't feel the need too or have interest in food I actually left myself completely in a deficit. I try and aim for 1,500 calories ideally I should do more as I burn that daily anyway. But I've gone from eating one meal a day to having snacks at night to eating three/four small meals that seem to fill me up daily. Look out for high sugar and fats that will be where it goes wrong for everyone. I went shopping last week picked up a box of shredded wheat with berries inside and the sugar in a box "healthly" cereal was i think 7 or 11% of sugar!... i put it back and grabbed the normal shredded wheat. It's like "healthly" cereal bars laced with sugar. So yeah it's hard but once you get in the mind set it comes to you. I still go shopping now look at the sugar on packaging and im like wtf! That's meant to be healthly. But the sugar is ridiculously high. I lost 7Ib9oz in 6 days. I weigh in on the day of my injection. This week I probably won't hit that weight. Also I don't have butter or spread a use either avacardo or vitalite spread very thin.
