I'm 5 ft 8 and probably about 17 stone. I've been trying to lose weight for the past 2 years with no success and I've gotten to the point that every day I just hate myself.

I've put off going down the weight loss medication route because I was so determined I could lose weight on my own (I have lost 8 and a half stone in the past through low carb but couldn't sustain that way of eating and went back to my old habits) and despite going back to low carb, then calorie counting and joining the gym the weight is still not shifting so I'm at desperation point now.

Please can someone tell me where to really start? The best place to order from? Is it better to start mounjaro or ozempic? Do people switch to different suppliers to take advantage of new customer offers? The price is one of the biggest things that has stopped me starting earlier because we are trying to pay off debt but I need to do something.

Sorry I'm a bit emotional after another miserable day shopping trying to find anything I feel good in so my head's all over the place. Would really appreciate some words of wisdom!

How you respond is totally arbitrary and varies massively between people.

I am on MJ now having started on Wegovy (ozempic)

it’s potluck really I don’t get on with MJ as well as Wegovy but sadly couldn’t stay on it.

i have lost coming up for 25kg since March it’s been slow and steady and unremarkable vs a lot of others on here.

i am on 5mg now for MJ and it’s doing nothing for me. I have maintained but not lost for 2 months 😵‍💫 at a cost of £400 ish

i also hate the MJ pens they are horrible to use compared to Wegovy. the best way I can describe it is the design feels amateurish

I have switched once but find it a pain in the arse. Currently with Voy who are 💯 style over substance and also auto renew your pens 😵‍💫 so will switch after next month not sure who to.
it’s all the same none of them care and you need to do your homework on long term maintenance

ThirdStorm · 30/11/2024 18:05

Taking Mounjaro was the best thing I ever did. I did low carb and it boosted my willpower to stick to it. I lost 5st BMI from 32 to 23 in 5 months. Just now adding carbs in to my diet so up to 80-100g a day now. I stayed on the lowest dose 2.5g throughout and still taking for maintenance. Minimal side effects, took fibre supplements for constipation and ate very plainly for the first month (tried something very greasy in week 2 and I paid for it). Good luck with whatever you decide.

Bananaram · 30/11/2024 18:12

Thank you both for your responses.

Who do you usually order from @ThirdStorm ? It's interesting you say that you have continued to take 2.5mg, I've seen a lot of people talking about upping the dose which makes me wonder how much more expensive it is to go up a dose.

I don't mind if the weight loss is slower, I've been patient trying for 2 years so losing slowly doesn't bother me as long as I am losing. When I was trying to lose weight, counting all my calories, going to the gym and the scales were going up, it took every part of me to keep going thinking it would eventually pay off (it didn't!)

Monj . Co. Uk will show you a list of registered pharmacies that are safe to buy from and prices.

morbidcuriosity · 30/11/2024 18:31

Hi. I am 5 foot 10 and was 18 stone 6, in august, i am now 15 stone 5 and hopefully less when i weigh monday.
I started my journey getting my pen from Asda as didnt know much about online pharmacies, but after reading nearly all the threads on here i now switch for the cheaper.
Ive used Med Express and Zava too . You start on 2.5mg which you can get for about £100 and can make it last 5 weeks then can up to 5mg if you want to.
I chase the discounts like my next one will be from med express again as at the moment they offer double difference credit, so my next 7.5mg i think works out at £108 ish
You should go for it, its the best thing ive done . I have had a couple bouts of constipation which i easily solved with over counter drugs, one time was a bit painful but got over it , lol
I am lucky that is my only side effect ive had, but lots of people feel sick get the shi*s etc,
I like the fact i just dont think of food really, i still enjoy the food i have but dont obsess over it, not had chocolate since i started which is mad, just dont fancy it, and to be someone that on occasion ive had to remind myself to eat something is just something i thought people made up, i mean who the hell forgets to eat? well thats me now.

There is a thread for discounts, just grab any code from there and use that for a cheaper pen, most are for med express though

I say go for it, and if it turns out you hate it or get bad effects then just stop, £100 odd quid to try and you might love it as nearly all of us here do..

ThirdStorm · 30/11/2024 18:36

@Bananaram ive been told Im super sensitive to it, but I’ve had good supression and 2-3lb a week weight loss so never felt the need to up the dose. We’re all different. And yes it’s more expensive if you go up. I’ve used MedExpress for my whole journey. Others have moved suppliers a few times. Like @morbidcuriosity i enjoy my food but don’t obsess anymore. I’ve gone off alcohol too, just don’t fancy it. Check out the new starter threads in the weight loss injection area of mumsnet. You’ll get answers to all your questions and more. I say that because I can barely remember the start of my journey!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 30/11/2024 18:46

Aw, I just leant to reach out of your screen and give you a big hug! I know that hopeless feeling only too well.

One of the biggest lessons I have learned in the last 5 1/2 months on MJ is that everybody reacts differently/loses at their own pace/has their own tolerance for side effects etc.

I would recommend doing as much research as you can. Red through some of the threads on here, listen to podcasts, go through some of the provider websites on monj.co.uk and think about what YOU want and need.

To answer your questions:
Really start as I have said above - research!
The best place to order from depends on what you want - cheapest price, coaching, support from a pharmacist etc. They all seem to have a niche!😂
MJ or Wegovy is up to you. MJ is newer, reports higher weight loss etc but, again, we are all different and will react differently.
Yea, many people switch suppliers A LOT to take advantage of discounts etc

MJ is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. You can see from my user name how worried I was to start but I have lost 27% of my body weight in the last 24 weeks and am galloping towards no longer being in the obese bmi range!

Bananaram · 30/11/2024 18:50

I'm not much of a drinker, so that doesn't bother me 😁 I know exactly what you mean about the food noise, I spent so much of my day thinking about food, planning my day out, making sure I have the right amount of protein, worrying about how many calories I have left over at the end of the day in case I get hungry and need a snack, etc

I was losing weight (albeit so incredibly slowly, think 5lbs in 6 months) but any time I deviated from the plan the weight piled back on instantly. I expected it was water weight and would drop off over the following week but it didn't, and I was back to the start of the painstakingly slow weight loss battle. All the while wanting to eat what I wanted and resenting every other human who could just eat a bloody sandwich without the panic and guilt!

Please can someone tell me where to really start?

I'd start by diving into this board and reading every post you see. You can either start from the oldest post or the newest post.
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections

You'll get answers there and answers to questions you haven't even thought to ask. Then reading any other forums online or articles online about how this medication works. You'll find lots of links on different posts and threads while you read on here.

It will probably take you days or weeks to get through all of them but I'm sure by the time you're done (or even before you're halfway done), you'll be itching to get started with a wealth of information at your fingertips.

The best place to order from?

Reading the board might give you an idea of the pharmacy you'd prefer but this website monj.co.uk/ has a list of registered pharmacies to choose from - one list shows discounted prices and another list shows them with full price. Always choose one of the registered pharmacies. Don't be tempted to go to someone on Facebook or anywhere online talking about getting it somewhere else for cheaper. You'll never know what you're getting and if they're licensed to sell.

Is it better to start mounjaro or ozempic?

Reading the board will likely help you make this decision but at this time, most people go for Mounjaro because it generally works better and has GIP as well as GLP-1, as opposed to Semaglutide's (Wegovy/Ozempic) only GLP-1. You should also take time to read up on these - You'll find a lot of information on this board too. However, it depends on the person so Wegovy or Ozempic might work better for you.

Do people switch to different suppliers to take advantage of new customer offers? The price is one of the biggest things that has stopped me starting earlier because we are trying to pay off debt but I need to do something.

Some people do, some don't. If you're happy to go with the cheapest at any time to save money, then you'd need to be chasing the discounts and switching suppliers or go with the cheapest supplier from the start and stay with them until you decide not to. You're free to go with any supplier at any time even if they're subscription-based. You just cancel your subscription and go elsewhere. As long as you have proof of your previous orders, you can start with a new supplier on your current dose, as opposed to having to start on the first dose (2.5mg) again for lack of proof.

I'm 5'8 and started MJ beginning of July at about 106 kg, so roughly your stats OP. I weighed myself last week and am at 88.7 kg, now in merely overweight BMI range.

I've had a few moments of feeling nauseated, one night I ate a fatty rich meal and had indigestion issues overnight, but overall I feel fine. I'm not as hungry, I'm not obsessing over food, I'm not driven to eat carbs nonstop. I feel like I'm just eating like a normal person. It's been a huge relief. I can think about other things now.

FlappingMadly · 30/11/2024 20:21

It is not overly dramatict to say that Mounjaro has changed my life. I lost weight slowly and with difficulty, couldn't go further and was exhausted, obese and heading for a metabolic illlnesses - take your pick. Then began stress eating and it just got worse and worse.
My weight rocketed after I caught Lyme disease and then peri menopause compounded it.
So what i'm trying to say is go for it!

And (this isn't the reason for my response) if you would like a code for a discount to Medexpress, Voy or Numan send me a pm. I personally find Medexpress the most straight forward.

I have had an easy time of it with no nasty side affects (hope i haven't jinxed it by writing that). I began at 110kg and last weighed in at 100 and am fairly sure I've since lost more. I have great energy and think I'm sharper. I do not starve myself. I just find it amazing my body is doing what it should do.

jp35 · 28/04/2025 17:17

Hi, I’ve been reading this post with great interest. I have been thinking about weight loss injections for a long time now. I am leaning towards mounjaro based upon people’s comments about losing more weight on this.

If you order from companies as a new user, once the options have run out of companies to choose from, has anyone gone back to a company that they have used before, or do they blacklist you? Do previously used companies contact you with offers to tempt you back to them?

Also, for those who have ordered from different companies, is the quality of the product the same from each?

SilenceInside · 28/04/2025 17:23

@jp35 there is only one manufacturer of Mounjaro, and only one manufacturer of Wegovy. All the UK suppliers will be supplying the exact same medication which they get from those two suppliers. So there is no possible difference in quality of the medication.

Even if you change suppliers each month you’re unlikely to run out of options. There are dozens and more setting up all the time. No company would “blacklist” you, you just wouldn’t be a new customer any more and if it’s been months since you ordered they might not want to supply you with a higher dose pen unless you could prove you’d had a previous prescription with someone else. I’m sure companies contact people with discounts for returning, or seasonal offers for anyone.

StayingAnonForThis · 29/04/2025 13:53

Mounjaro has changed my life.

For an easy and safe way to start, you could order mounjaro 2.5mg from medexpress. A lot of people start with them and there are usually discount codes you can use for the first pen. If not, they are reasonably priced anyway. They feel like a safe company and have been going a while. You can order a pen from them today.

Once you've got and started to use your first pen, then maybe come on here and seek advice about changing providers etc.. most providers offer discounts for newbies so if you keep changing you can keep costs low. Only problem is that it's a faff to change providers as you have to send photos and fill in the online forms again etc..

So - Google medexpress today and order your pen and go from there!

Scarlettpixie · 02/05/2025 19:32

Do lots of reading so you understand if you qualify, what the drugs do, what to expect and the risks. I am on mounjaro which has better results for many as it has both glp1 and gip. I have been lucky and had minimal side effects. I started end of October and have lost 36lb. Its slowed at the moment but thats ok, I am in this for the long haul. I am currently on my first pen of 10mg. I did 2 pens each of 2.5mg, 5mg and 7.5mg. You need to do a min of 4 weeks on each dose but if a dose is still working for you and you can maintain a calorie defect and are loosing, you can stay on the same dose for as long as you want. For me they seem to be less effective after about 6 weeks.

For me MJ has been amazing. I have hardly any food noise now and had none for weeks, and while I can still eat my meals, I get full quicker so eat less. You need to be in calorie deficit while taking MJ but that is made possible/easier by the drug. You also may find that you don’t want sweet or fatty food (which you need to be careful with anyway as they can cause upset stomach) and some people go off alcohol. I have stopped biting my nails on it which is something I have done all my life. Weird!

The lower doses are cheaper and prices vary. Have a look on Monj as others mentioned and make sure you buy from somewhere on there. Many offer discounts for referrals or new customers. Some just have discount codes on and off. I am currently with Oushk who are great. They have a facebook support group and the owner does facebook lives and answers questions on them but customer service is also good if you need to ask anything. They will also prescribe for side effects and offer maintenance plans which many companies don’t.
