Hair loss

I've reached my goal weight and will be titrating down to a 5mg on-going maintenance dose from next month. Everything has been fine BUT my hair is falling out like there's no tomorrow. It's worse than post-childbirth.

I don't know if it's the Mounjaro or the fairly rapid weight loss that's triggered it, but at this rate I'm going to have no hair left.

I've started taking some biotin gummies (I've heard they help). I'm going to book in for a haircut to take off three or four inches in the hope that less of it falls out due to knots when I'm brushing it.

For anyone on a maintenance dose, who's reached their goal, did your hair loss subside at all? I'm reluctant to come off MJ completely, as I have no faith that I won't just re-gain the weight. But equally, I don't really want bald patches.

Hi there,

It’s not Mounjaro. It’s telogen effluvium which is caused by rapid weight loss. If you search that term on google you will find lots of reassuring information.

It’s happened to me several times over the years due to losing lots of weight fast. There isn’t much you can do about it, but it will grow back.

When it happened to me last time I felt like I was not going to have any hair left at all! It kept coming and coming.. but it does stop and it will grow back.

You could also see your GP and request some blood tests, just to rule anything else out.
