My weight has finally dropped to a healthy BMI

Loss of 5.5 stone, since 1 April.

Feel so much healthier, but I have to admit I feel a bit sad at the amount of comments from people saying I look good, which I know it's well meaning. But it makes me feel that i didn't before and actually makes me feel society is so shallow.

I can understand how you feel but the comments are probably more based on you looking like a healthier weight and the impact that has on health, rather than superficially about your looks. When I see a celebrity that has put on a lot of weight, i.e. Charlie Dimmock, there is natural thoughts over the impact on health and mobility, I don't actually care about how someone looks as I know some obese women that have confidence and dress well for their body shape. Enjoy your huge milestone and celebrate 🙌

Did you think you looked good before?

I have to be honest, with similar to lose as you did, I didn’t think I looked good at all, so can’t throw hammers as others didn’t either. Not unless I start with my own shallowness,

howver if you thought you looked good, then fair enough. I don’t. And I usually think people look better at a healthy weight rather than over or under. If that makes me shallow, fair enough,

I need to lose 4 stone to be in a healthy BMI and I'm working on that. But I did not look good with the extra weight I've lost and still have to go. It's not about being shallow or society being mean - I genuinely look fat, have a puffy face, everything about me does not look good. If you felt you looked great at 5 stone heavier, you wouldn't have worked so hard to lose it.

I've lost over three stone and no one has noticed/commented and this has pissed me off 😂

🙈 disappointing but I bet you've noticed yourself and you feel healthier and clothes fit better!

I know because I've been there. Either people say nothing and I would get annoyed or they woulld say something and I would get annoyed - clearly the problem was me!

What helped me was to reframe the comments in my mind. When they say "you look great", maybe what they actually mean is "I know how hard it is to lose weight - good for you!"

SilenceInside · 24/11/2024 13:56

@daffodilandtulip I've lost 5 and a half stone and not a peep from anyone. And it is noticeable. But, I've still got the same again to get to my target weight. Maybe when I'm physically half the person I used to be, people might comment.

@noclouds I totally understand how you feel about the comments, it's uncomfortable for people to suddenly start commenting on your appearance. And we know that society in general is shallow and appearance focussed. There's so much media and content on looks, clothes, makeup, etc etc.

I'm getting comments too. Someone posted about this yesterday and put up a couple of helpful things from Oushk to help with the psychological aspect of losing a lot of weight. Reposting for you.

@noclouds Sorry, should also have said that I know how hard you will have worked to achieve this. Well done. 😊

I feel th4 same, although I disagree she wouldn’t have worked so hard if she liked her aappearance, she may well have thought she looked great, and did it for health reasons. I can’t see another reason why she’d be feeling as she is, as it’s not ok to criticise others for feeling the same way she did.

i had 4.7 to lose, now three stone to go. I did not look good a stone and a half earlier, I still don’t. Although I look better. My face was puffy and fat. My fingers, and ankles fat and swollen, my belly also bloated and swollen. Very few people would look at themselves looking so unhealthy and think they looked good. Hats off to the op if she did, I didn’t,

we don’t look at other obese women and think they don’t look good, we might even think they look nice based on how they present, but we can look at them at a healthy weight and acknowledge and see they look healthier. Better than they did, that’s not shallow, it’s not an insult. Most people do look better at a healthy weight.
