2.5mg was working great… now not so!

So I had great suppression on 2.5mg first 3/4 weeks. I have a 5mg pen but did 30 clicks this week to see if still got suppression on 2.5mg but I’m not really getting much. Could it be that I’ve now got used to 2.5? Was hoping to go up in smaller stages but maybe it’s time to try the 5mg?

It's normal. If you've been on 2.5mg for 4 weeks and it's no longer working, time to go up. If you don't want to do the full 5mg, you can do a dose between 2.5mg and 5mg and see if it works better than 2.5mg. Or just go up to 5mg and see how it works for you.

HippoPortlyMouse · 22/11/2024 12:43

You can go up in smaller stages. Your provider won't advise it because only the standard doses on the pens have been trialled. But many of us on here have successfully used in-between doses. You just need to count the correct number of clicks on your 5 mg pen, for example:

30 clicks equals 2.5mg
36 clicks equals 3.0mg
45 clicks equals 3.75mg

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/11/2024 12:56

Totally normal. Did you supplier /reading info tell you this

2.5 is to get body used to it for 4w

Then up to 5 which is the only time dose doubles

Keepitup88 · 22/11/2024 15:27

Yes I was aware but at first I was having great suppression on 2.5mg. I’m going to do 3.75mg next week and see how I go before going straight up to 5

Why are you resistant to going up in dosage in accordance with the dosage schedule and when your body indicates you need to?

Keepitup88 · 22/11/2024 15:35

I’m just reluctant to do the 100% jump to 5mg

But you went a complete jump to 2.5?

Why? 2.5 to 5mg is the dosage schedule. It's fine to stay on 2.5 if it's working, but if it's not, why won't you go up? It's odd.

piefacedClique · 22/11/2024 16:15

I’ve done the jumps straight with no side effects. Most people don’t have them… just gone up to 7.5 with no side effects…. 5 didn’t do much for me! Hoping to see an improvement with 7.5

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/11/2024 16:22

I didn't get any suppression till 10

All are different

I think there is so much noise on here and folks messing with doses. I strongly suspect if the op hadn’t been on this forum she’d just do as the doctors advice and move up.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/11/2024 16:56

If Havnt had any real sickness then follow the programme as advised. Up a dose each month so you should do 5

Those who tweak and 3/375/4 are because they can't handle the higher doses

Mj is meant to be followed the way the supplier says

JustinThyme · 22/11/2024 17:46

I understand - I had a rough time when I started so I went for 3.75 as a stepping stone.

But the op never said she’d had it rough.

I don’t get what some folks are doing, it’s like they are trying to outsmart the doctors and scientists and will do anything not to take the recommended doses, thinking some how they are being clever.

i even saw someone post they didn’t test smaller doses, like they’d no idea on the impact of different levels at different stages. There was no science behind it. And it was random guesses.

sure if you are genuinely following all tn4 guidance, eating clean, small portions etc and are very ill then either stop or stay, but that’s a small percentage of people. Everyone else is just messing around. Fair enough at 5 or 10 . But farting about at 2.5 and 3.75 thinking you know more than the scientists is mind boggling.

TeenLifeMum · 22/11/2024 18:11

It makes me nervous people are taking advice about dosage from here rather than medical professionals.

Keepitup88 · 22/11/2024 18:47

I’m not taking advice from Mumsnet I’m asking for opinions. When people are saying I didn’t suffer on 2.5mg I never said that. At times I felt quite sick and headaches. I see 3.75 as a stepping stone like a previous poster said!

OP posts:
TheSilkWorm · 22/11/2024 18:54

If 2.5 isn't doing much then injecting 3.75 will probably just be a waste of medication 🤷🏼‍♀️ it won't have the proper effect

Exactly. The dose increase is 2.5 at each step. It’s no different to any other drug. Bp med. 5 to 10 mg.. Depending on the drug. You don’t see any doctor saying why don’t you try 7,5, split a 5mg in half mate.

Ok, that wasn’t apparent as you’ve been posting regularly about how you felt fine on the other threads.

KitsyWitsy · 22/11/2024 21:01

Just go up to 5mg. I don’t see a need for you to not follow the guidelines.

Tohaveandtohold · 22/11/2024 21:20

I think if you’ve not had side effects on 2.5 and it’s not working, you should go up to 5 as the dosage say. You can then stay on 5. I can understand why you’re hesitant because I also was worried about the jump and potential side effects but not everyone has side effects.

Mysticmaiden2024 · 23/11/2024 14:38

I went up to 3.75mg but regretted it as I was still very hungry after a day on it so I topped up with 1.25mg 3 days later. I'd gone up slowly as I had a lot of anxiety, low mood headaches and dizziness first few weeks on mounjaro, but once I increased protein and fluids I was fine. I don't think the 3.75mg made much difference in suppression and was glad when I did 5mg next as its been great for suppression and no side effects! If you have been ok on 2.5mg last few weeks, you'll probably be fine on 5mg.
