Do I need to stop MJ because of BMI?

I've been doing really well- no problems taking weekly injections since May and have been on 10mg for a couple of months. I've now lost about 3 stone and am a size 12-unbelievable!🙂 it has been challenging, but worth it. My BMI is now at 22...I carry weight round my middle and would ideally like to lose another 7pounds. Should I be reducing the dose now that my BMI is down? I read about people maintaining on higher doses, but wonder how safe that is? I am trying to tone my abdomen up too but am in my fifties and not the most flexible!! Any advice appreciated. (I have saved a couple of 10mg pens to take me through till I stop and go it alone🤞)

I'd say it depends on you and what you're after. If you're happy with what... say... 2.5mg or 5mg gives you, then maintain on that lower dose. If you still want to keep up the suppression to lose some more and get to your ideal weight, then stay on the dose that's working for you till you get there then taper down or stop completely. There's no need staying on a higher dose weekly as normal once you get to your ideal weight. You'll likely keep losing weight and you don't want that. The lowest working dose with low suppression and side effects should be a good combination.

You can also try pharmacies that allow something like one month in and one month off for maintenance if you want to stay on 10mg for example or any higher dose. So 10mg one month and nothing the next month. Then 10mg again the next... (I've heard Cloud- specifically - do that. Simple Online, Pharmulous, The Care Pharmacy, etc also do maintenance).

Thank you- that makes sense. I think I will start bringing the dose down. Thank you again for your advice- felt a bit invisible there myself! ;-)

@CherryCinnamon well done! Amazing

can I ask how long it took you to get from bmi 23 to 22. I’m struggling with this last part and it’s being sooooo slow. Not sure weather to just call it a day but have a few doses left!
BMI 23 atm but want to get to 22

Thank you! I just checked my Renpho scales info and it was about 5 weeks from 23 to 22. Good luck and well done to you too!

Well done!

It’s up to you. Just be open with your pharmacy and see what they offer.

Personally I want to get to around BMI 21. I would love to be able to use MJ to get as close to that as possible. I’m currently still overweight/ over BMI 25 so I’m still being prescribed as normal. I’m also not wanting to be on MJ long term.

So my plan is to increase my dose as normal (prescription already approved) which would ideally take me to my goal weight, then I plan to wean off the medication by titrating down the strengths. I’m hoping I’ll be able to maintain my weight loss easier without going completely cold turkey.

However if you were wanting to be on MJ long term to maintain your BMI of 22, it is permitted too. You might just need to contact a few providers.

I don't want to be on MJ for ever.. I really want to get to where I'm happy and then maintain. I know it won't be easy. I think I'll work my way back down the doses like I worked my way up. A few more months with help and give my body a chance to adjust.🤞
I'm with you on aiming for a lower BMI as a goal- it will give a bit of room for manoeuvre.
Good luck getting to your goal-you'll smash it!
