Raised heart rate and blood pressure

I've been on MJ since August (was on saxenda from June to August) the last week or so I've noticed my heart rate has gone up and up ( its been slowly going up for the past few months)

I've been to the doctors and am waiting blood tests as it could be my underactive thyroid but has anyone else had a higher heart rate and blood pressure?
I feel quite ill from it, get dizzy when I get up and feel light headed and spaced out for most of the day but its worse when I get up, as soon as I lie down my heart rate goes back to normal.
I really don't want to stop taking Mounjaro as it helps me so much and not just with the weight loss but I'm struggling.
If you have had a raised heart rate due to Mounjaro was there anything that helped?

Can I ask why you think it’s due to mounjaro but rhe docs think it’s your thyroid? Why the disconnect ? Surely if the docs thought mounjaro they’d have you stop it?

Something to do with my thyroid rates at my last blood test, he things they seem to be increasing and I might be taking too much thyroxine, the blood test will help to see if its that. I explained that I wanted to rule other things out as I quite often get issues with low iron etc, he was happy for me to rule out the other things first. I did tell him that I would stop the Mounjaro if the blood test come back clear.
Also a high heart rate is a side effect for people on Mounjaro so there's a good chance its linked.

Mounjaro is supposed to be beneficial for blood pressure so I really think you need to see what the doc says before taking another jab and perhaps further tests will be required.
Hope it all turns out ok and you feel better soon 💐

I've had the opposite, my BP is lower and according to my watch my resting heart rate has dropped from an average of 70bpm 8 weeks ago to 61bpm now.

Me1987 · 12/11/2024 20:01

My blood pressure is currently 151/87
My resting heart rate is about 84, it's always been around low 70s until the last month but its slowly been rising since I started weight loss injections.

Hmm that’s quite a concerning jump.

My resting has gone down. And my blood pressure has improved.

Have you looked into whether people on MJ end up adjusting thyroxine?

NoAprilFool · 12/11/2024 20:08

Have you lost quite a lot of weight? It could be that your medication needs adjusted

Me1987 · 12/11/2024 20:24

I started at 13st and now 10st 10 I don't think I've heard of anyone having to have their thyroxine adjusted, I suppose there are still some unknowns with mounjaro

I just did a quick google and thyroxine dosage needs to change if you have significant weight loss.

and losing 2 stone is significant.

it also seems that people taking thyroxine and MJ are advised to have regular blood test to in case the dose needs adjusting.

Excess thyroid hormone can increase your heart rate. So it could be you are on to high of a dose now you have lost weight.

Me1987 · 12/11/2024 20:43

Thanks. I did a quick Google as well and agree, it's not something I ever even thought about, I was on 25mg for year and then during covid I was re tested and put on 50mg, I've lost 3 stone 8lbs since May 2022 and been on 50mg all that time so it makes sense that I might be on too much of a higher dose. I should have the blood results by the end if the week

My heart rate has also gone up with taking Mounjaro - and I don't have the weight loss to explain it! Weirdly my Bp is around the same as it's always been.

Me1987 · 13/11/2024 06:31

So last night I checked my nhs app and my blood test results had been checked and uploaded, all tests came back normal, thyroid, full blood count, liver and kidney and lots of other tests, all completely normal with no father action. Unfortunately it's looking more and more like its the mounjaro that's caused the increase in blood pressure and heart rate. I'm going to call my doctor later to see if I need to stop taking it.

I’m so sorry.

Ah that such a shame. But at least you can take a break. Then see if it come back down.

Then you know what to do next. Good luck

Weight loss can reduce inflammation and improve thyroid function if you have autoimmune thyroiditis. Hyperthyroidism can cause high blood pressurs.

There is also a link between autoimmune thyroiditis (hashimotos basically) and thyroid cancer with mounjaro & this can also present with changes in bl - it’s why when you get the drug through private GPs / clinics they monitor you for various types of thyroid cancer.
