How much does the cost of Mounjaro rise as your dose increases?

I've searched through all the Mounjaro threads but I can't find an answer to this. This is a question to the experienced weight loss injection users!

I've done a bit of research into using these pens and I've looked at the cost per pen (average about £150 before you use the discount codes), but how much does that price rise as the dose rises? I see you start on 2.5mg and can go up as high as 15mg. How does that work? Is it still one injection a week but a higher dose pen? Or do you go through more pens and inject more often? Can anyone tell me, on average, how much the cost goes up per month as you work your way up the higher doses?

Thank you!

Have a look at the price comparisons on sites like miss Mounjaro uk

www.missmounjarouk.com

Or monj.co.uk

You can see the prices for each dosage of pen.

You use one pen for 4 doses all the way through. The higher dose pens are more expensive because they contain a lot more active ingredient than the lower dose pens.

Going up the doses might not be needed, it all depends on how you respond to the medication, some respond well and spend many months on 2.5mg.

I am 17 weeks in and doing a partial dose of 3.75mg. You can get 5 doses/weeks out of most pens if you are willing to break the pen on the 5th dose or use a syringe to extract which helps with the cost.

There are comparison sites where you can get an idea of the cost of each pen from 2.5mg to 15mg. One of them is

This one has separate comparison lists for with and without discounts.

I also agree that you don't have to move up doses or run through them every month to get to the top as long as a dose is working for you.

Thanks everyone. That's all really useful.

In terms of breaking the pen and getting a fifth dose from it. How do you then inject it?

There's something called a 'hard twist'. You can search it on this board - so many have talked about it and explained it. You're not exactly breaking the pen, you're just twisting it hard like you're opening a new sealed bottle for the first time. It will twist and click, loosen up, then you'll get the bonus/5th dose from it.

It can be hard to twist for some people so you can use your teeth or pliers or just brute strength to twist till it loosens up. Then you twist it all the way to 1 like the other doses.

Some people who can't twist or don't want to do that use insulin syringe to get the bonus dose from the pen, then inject with the insulin syringe.

Hard twist in video. You might need to buy extra pen needles depending on how many spares your supplier sends

Or buy syringes (not from amazon) in case hard twist doesn't work.

1ml, 8mm, 32g syringe. A full dose is 0.6ml.

I really want to do this but am scared of injecting myself.

Benefits sound great.

@mumof1or2 I've been looking into this for a couple of weeks but for some reason I'm hesitant - it all sounds so confusing like I need a dummies guide!

@mumsm the injection is really and truthfully nothing to be worried about. It doesn't hurt at all, not even slightly, to the point that you can wonder if you've even done it at all.

The benefits are great but bear in mind that the results can vary a lot and that some people do get side effects which can vary from very mild to quite unpleasant. Rarely, people can get more serious side effects.

From the price comparison sites, it seems like it would be worth buying the higher dose pens but then using at the lower rate you want for better value. Have people tried this? Any reason not to say you've used before/ for longer than you have to get a higher dose pen? Seems less sketchy than messing with a pen to get an extra dose out

12purplepencils · 26/12/2024 13:23

It varies by supplier but most get a little more expensive with higher doses.
One of the reasons I like Zava is that it doesn’t rise too much and prices are pretty good even without discount code.
Having said that I have just posted a code on the discount thread.
The dosage stays the same, same amount once a week it’s just a stronger solution.

SilenceInside · 26/12/2024 14:04

@AuntiePushpa the pens should be disposed of 30 days after the first use, so you can get 5 doses (one a week) in that timescale. After that, the active ingredient will start to degrade and there's also the risk of contamination and bacterial growth and so on. So using a pen for several weeks beyond that timescale is more risky to me than using the remaining liquid in the pen for a 5th dose which is within the 30 day time limit.

SilenceInside · 26/12/2024 14:11

@AuntiePushpa also, you can't just sign up and buy a higher dose pen. You would need to show proof that you'd been on that dosage or the one below/above prior to ordering.

Thank you, I thought there would probably be a good reason not to... useful to know 🙏
