Using a MJ pen after it's been open for 30 days

Has anyone done this?

I didn't manage to get to the pharmacy to pick up my new pen.

My pen has been open for 6ish weeks but still has a dose in it.

Absolutely fine if refrigerated

I wouldn't do it as I worry about not following the guidelines when it comes to medications, I'm very risk-averse! I'd prefer to delay my next injection until I could get a new pen.

KitsyWitsy · 27/10/2024 07:41

I would use it. What do you think happens to it on the 30th day?

olympicsrock · 27/10/2024 07:43

I’ve used every single one for 8-10 weeks after opening . Been doing it 7 months. No issues
In hospital drugs like this are kept refrigerated in vials and used for longer than 30 days.

I think I might do it then because otherwise I have to wait until tomorrow and I really don't want Monday to be my injection day. It's better for the injection day to be Saturday or Friday as it's the weekend, in case of feeling ill.

Can I ask have you done this? . If yes.. do you inject from the fridge, so cold liquid..
I'm happy to go over 30 days if needed but if I choose to do that with a pen I'm wondering if I inject straight from fridge or let it get to room temp first?
Is there any issue injecting cold???

You’ll get lots of people telling you to definitely not do it - but I do it and keep my pens refrigerated for that reason. I haven’t used one beyond about 5 weeks yet but am about to start taking 5mg doses from a 7.5mg pen and will do that till it’s gone.

Sampler · 27/10/2024 08:07

I’m doing it because I am doing 2.5mg from a 5mg pen every 5/6 days. I keep it in the fridge and have clean needles etc.

I do keep the pen out of the fridge for about 10/15 mins prior to injection @morbidcuriosity

ccoking · 27/10/2024 08:09

I can't actually do it after all. I threw it away yesterday..

@morbidcuriosity I've always injected straight from the fridge and not noticed any issues with that at all. Just done my 16th injection on Friday.

FreeFreedom · 27/10/2024 08:14

I've always kept mine in the fridge and I inject straight from it, then put it back. I actually don't like the idea of keeping this sort of medication outside the fridge (room temp). I've been doing so since August when I started.

Thankfully the first one came with a small pen and accessories hard case (pen section, 4 needles section and swabs on top) so I keep them in there and in the lower drawer in the fridge. The spare pens are kept in the same drawer in their sealed bag as they came until I need to use them. Then I transfer the new pen into the pen case.

I've not needed to use any past 30 days but I suppose I would if I needed to.

Thank you. I was thinking when I start to come off it, taking less from a pen so keeping longer. Cheaper that way..

A few days over I would consider low risk. It is not going to be fine day 30 and unstable a couple of days later.

Using it weeks over, in the absence of any reputable information on how it impacts the stability of the drug, is reckless. Anyone relying on guesswork and social media posts to make decisions on taking this drug several weeks beyond its intended shelf life is playing with fire and showing a troubling disregard of very basic common sense, prioritising a few quid over a risk to their health.

Ridiculous comparison. 🤯

In my fridge I have condiments that are 6 weeks old, doesn't mean I'll eat chicken that has had its seal broken and been in the fridge for twice it's shelf life.

Not all drugs have the same properties.
