My Mounjaro journey is at an end

CatOfTheLand · 24/10/2024 12:34

I've gone from about 12 stone (my scales were broken, it turned out, so not sure of my start weight) to around 9 st 4lbs after 4ish months of Mounjaro.

Because my BMI is lower than 23.5 no one will prescribe me a maintenance dose or any further treatment. I had wanted to do one more month to lose a further 4lbs as a bit of a cushion against gain caused by stopping, but will go this alone.

I did suffer from a lot of gastric problems on Mounjaro (all of my old food intolerances that I'd grown out of came back), but found that my mental health, concentration and just general feeling of wellbeing soared!

Thank you to everyone who answered my questions and helped me with my journey ❤️

Would love to hear from anyone in a similar position.

9.4 is my goal weight, so I'm SO pleased for you. Massive congratulations, you must feel elated 💙

Tohaveandtohold · 24/10/2024 15:03

I’m not there yet, still a long way off but well done to you. My goal weight is 9 st, 6.3 lb so close to what you are now. Well done and hopefully, all the changes you’ve made will help you as you try and lose the remaining 4lbs

Dollybantree · 24/10/2024 15:06

How tall are you do you mind me asking? I’m 12.10 and 5”8” but I’m worried I won’t be able to get it as I’m not obese? I’d love to get to 10.7 but I’m really struggling to get it off just counting calories and a bit of exercise (in my 40’s)

CatOfTheLand · 24/10/2024 15:23

I'm really short - 5'3, so technically still have a few lbs to lose as have a disproportionately large belly.

Well you’ve had a phenomenal loss, well done 👏

CatOfTheLand · 24/10/2024 15:25

I was prescribed it because I had high cholesterol- so you could go to your doctor for a cholesterol and blood pressure check too as that makes it more likely you'll get a prescription.

The prescriber also goes by photos, so they can tell if you're overweight or not.

Thank you everyone. I feel like I had a slight advantage though as all of my weight piled on quickly after an extremely stressful life event. So once I was on the medication the binge eating went, as did a lot of my stress, which seemed to zap the belly fat especially.

I don't feel like I learned a lot on my journey though as I'll still 100% emotional eat or binge if given the chance. But I'm better off than I was a few months back.

@Dollybantree unless you have an underlying condition you won't be prescribed it with a bmi of 27

@CatOfTheLand have you contacted oushuk pharmacy? There are a few people on the Feb - April thread who have signed up to their maintenance plan.

I'm in a similar position but I did "stockpile" a bit so I have pens I can carry on using now that I am at bmi 23.2.

Well done @CatOfTheLand what an amazing loss! im a similar height and starting weight to you and still contemplating starting Mounjaro just to get on top of losing some weight as all I seem to do is pile it on right now and also have just found out my cholesterol is creeping towards high. May I ask which prescriber you used please and if you would recommend them?

I used Voy, Medexpress and numan. I can PM you codes for each if you want

I've gone from 15 stone to 9 stone 5 and Oushk will prescribe to me with a BMI of 22.5 which I am now.

It's a tapering down dose and it's a personalised plan to keep me on the straight and narrow but they were happy to work with me on it so could be an option ?

To my knowledge, no other prescriber has followed suit yet but I'm sure they will

And well done!

CatOfTheLand · 24/10/2024 16:04

@CiderJabs Oh I haven't contacted them, so will give it a go. I wish I'd had the foresight to stockpile. I was caught out by all the providers I used tightening their regulations.

I'd love to do 5mg once a month to be honest. But don't think it works that way!

@CatOfTheLand that's a shame. I'll confess I'm not following the 30 day usage because I'm using 7.5 pens and taking smaller doses. My dp is also at the same stage as me so we are sharing pens - we both managed to get a "bundle" of two pens before we reached 25 and are working our way through them.

I've not used oushk myself but I've read good things and believe they will take you in - you'll have to decide the type of plan you want as there are 3 options I believe

girljulian · 24/10/2024 16:28

Well done! Same here, I've lost 30lbs, now at a healthy weight (my "normal weight") and been off it for a month.

DappledOliveGroves · 24/10/2024 16:43

I had a call with Oushk yesterday and they will prescribe maintenance doses with a BMI of 22.5, assuming you're healthy and can evidence three months' worth of prescriptions from previous provider. I'm planning to switch to them shortly, as Voy won't prescribe other than to titrate down the doses, once you hit 22.5 BMI.

@CatOfTheLand
Amazing loss, well done. I'm the same height as you, currently on month 3 and 9st 12. 9st is my goal weight and had planned to contact Oushk once my bmi drops too low for Numan. I know you said upthread you had a code for Numan, if it's still going begging, could you ping it to me? Thank you 😊.

diian · 24/10/2024 18:07

I hit my goal yesterday:
10st 8 BMI 23.9 (height 5'6)
down from
13st 4 BMI 30
I have stockpiled some 5mg pens and will do a weekly 2.5mg dose using each pen for 8-9 weeks to try to maintain.

It's a multiple use code, I think! This is actually my husband's code as I'm not going to order again: numan.com/bff/refer/weight-loss/8539741c-7df4-4f71-ac7a-9623cca05b33.

I can't actually pm on my phone, but will remember my desktop login and pm you too in case this code gets deleted

What does the pharmacy do for maintenance?

CiderJabs · 24/10/2024 20:53

@healthybychristmas I believe you can either have a fixed dose long term, or you can have a plan in which you taper down slowly, and then you can pay £20 per month and get no drugs but stay on their books as a patient in case you start to gain and want to start taking it again. I think you also have coaching and consultations for the whole period.

PieonaBarm · 25/10/2024 05:37

I have considered it (I'm 14st at 5'7 so would qualify) but have had renal failure which I fortunately recovered from and I've read it can be a (rare) side effect of MJ. It was rare to have that in the first place and I couldn't be lucky enough to recover a second time so I haven't bothered.

What I have done is paid for two sessions of hypnotherapy. I asked the practitioner to switch off the "food noise" of what can I eat now? Even when I wasn't hungry I was looking for what I could eat. It's worked. I don't snack anymore. I have to watch what I eat and it's coming off slowly, but I can say I don't think about food every minute of every day anymore and I don't snack now. A hypnotherapist should ask what you want to achieve and what your issues are and write the script accordingly. I had two sessions at £75 each and have been sent the recordings which I listen to once a week now to keep me on track. I generally fall asleep as I listen at night but this is perfectly fine.

Absolutely worth considering now you're where you want to be to keep you on track. If you're in Lancashire I can send you her details privately. She was brilliant!
