The downsides of Mounjaro

I’ve been on Mounjaro for 7 months now and have lost 24 pounds. I’m currently on the 10mg dose as that is what I can tolerate and still lose weight on (approximately just under 1 pound / week). I eat healthily, protein and veg with every meal, take vitamins and electrolytes, but I have so little energy. I just feel drained all of the time. So for me while the weight loss is great, this aspect is not. I have insulin resistance so weight loss is really hard for me so I don’t want to come off of it until I’ve finished my weight loss (another 20 or so pounds so another 6+ months).

Anyone else? Or other effects long term effects you experience?

No, sorry, I have the reverse - lots of energy. Are you exercising?

ObsidianTree · 21/10/2024 22:08

I've read that tiredness could be caused by not eating enough. Have you been tracking your calories? Add in some protein shakes to your diet and see if that helps?

The tiredness can be caused by going up a dose. But sounds like you are staying on 10mg so that shouldn't be the cause.

Do you feel the suppression is too much? Maybe the 10mg is too much for you?

I do exercise, yes, not that I have much energy!

I was actually wondering this as well…I was just worried my weight loss would slow down to a crawl but the lack of energy is terrible. I could try going down for my next pen and see how I get on.

How many calories are you eating a day?

unsync · 23/10/2024 20:02

Are you tracking your calories and food? It's very easy to not eat enough, so if you aren't eating enough and are also exercising, you will be knackered.

I have been using myNetDiary, I really like it as it does all the calculations, has a really good database and will give you a breakdown/analysis of what you are eating. It tells you if you are missing nutrients etc and if you are not eating enough, it will tell you. As someone who struggles with food, I've found it really helpful to get my eating/food where it should be.

You're doing really well. I'm losing about 700g a week too, I chose to go slowly to give myself time to make the necessary shift in habits for life.

Check your blood pressure. Mine was in my boots at times. Hypotension can make you feel rubbish

ItsReallyShitingUp · 23/10/2024 20:42

I’m rubbish at tracking calories! I have ASD and have never been able to track calories well so it’s possible I’m not eating enough? I usually have oatmeal for breakfast, a small bowl of leftovers from the night before for lunch, and a cooked dinner (protein / veg / a small amount of rice, for example). Snacks are fruit. And I have coffee in the morning as well, and a Yakult.

My blood pressure is low actually, 85/60. I’m on beta blockers for anxiety so that won’t be helping, but I think I need to really focus on drinking 2L a day. It’s hard to drink this much a day but when I do I feel better it seems. The thing is the low energy started within the time frame of going on MJ so I wonder if both things together are affecting me.

Ty for all of the advice. I think I should try going down a dose and also doing what I can to raise my BP.
