Forgot to prime - how much missed?

Have been on mounjaro for 6 months so should be second nature but this evening distracted with kids buzzing around. Forgot to prime. Just started 12.5mg pen today. How much will I have missed? How many clicks does it normally take to prime before you get anything out? Just wondering if I should give myself a few extra clicks or not?

Priming is to check that the pen and needle are working, it doesn't give you any extra liquid in the injection. So you don't need to do anything at all! No "extra clicks" needed.

I’m not sure what you mean? When you prime the pen the medication in the needle comes out… so you’re not missing any in your actual dose.

I see what you mean but the amount would be tiny. The priming gets the liquid on its way to the needle. If you haven't primed then potentially you have missed a teeny bit. Not enough to consider.

Priming checks the needle and fills it with liquid to get a full dose.

But these needle are so fine and short the volume of liquid must be negligible/really really tiny and for something like MJ there is absolutely no need to worry or take more. You would be missing probably a fraction of one click!

Ah sorry I was being a bit dim, I get what you mean now. But as others have said, it will be a miniscule amount.

User364837 · 20/10/2024 23:23

I always forget to prime and have survived so far 🤷‍♀️

SilenceInside · 20/10/2024 23:45

Just realised that you're referring to the amount of liquid that would be left in the 4mm needle after priming but before injecting. It is such a tiny amount as to be negligible, and certainly less than the 0.01ml that each individual click represents.

Thanks guys for the reassurance.
