Safe to take Mounjaro every 5 days?

HelloWorld2577 · 17/10/2024 17:30

Hello, has anyone taken Mounjaro every 5 days? Seems as though after 5 days it wears off, and just wondered if anyone takes every 5 days instead of every 7 or takes a half dose every 3 days?

I know the recommendation is once weekly, at the same time but just querying if anyone does it differently! Also I’m aware max dose is 15mg so absolutely would not do every 5 days if on the highest dose but I’m currently on one of the lowest doses.

TIA x

Don’t do this - take it as instructed and get used to the hunger as this is entirely normal. Once you build up in your system the hunger will subside

Orangesandlemons77 · 17/10/2024 17:45

I've been finding the same thing OP and have taken it a day early, you're not alone. maybe this means you need to up the dose?

SilenceInside · 17/10/2024 17:59

Wouldn't you up the dose rather than use a schedule that hasn't been tested? I'm on 7.5mg and I'm fine for the whole week. As long as it stays like that I'll stick at this dose, otherwise I'll move up.

HippoPortlyMouse · 17/10/2024 18:04

I think more people take a split dose over 7 days, for example 2.5mg on Monday and 2.5mg Thursday so they still have a regular dose overall.

I can understand the appeal, but I think I'd forget what day I was meant to dose if it was every 5 days. And it's not like it switches off after 5 days - it's just less effective.

Orangesandlemons77 · 17/10/2024 18:13

Going through doses every 5 days would end up being pretty expensive - might be better to try a higher dose (mind you they are more expensive too)

KitsyWitsy · 17/10/2024 19:45

Yeah you can if you feel the need. You just have to have 4 days from the last injection. Don’t know why people are so militant about the 7 days but then mess about with everything else.

last week I took mine two days early because I felt I needed it. This week just one day early. Not sure I would plan on taking it every 5 days but I would definitely bring forward a dose on a difficult week.

Swissrollover · 18/10/2024 13:04

My personal schedule is that after trying every 7 days, I now take mine every 6 days. I've also titrated up slowly by counting clicks. If I followed the published schedule, I'd potentially be on 12.5mg now with only one higher dose available, but am only on my second week of 7.5mg.

I've made this personal decision, as I'm also worried about what happens when/ if I get to the max 15mg dose and it isn't enough any more.

I've thought about a split dose every 3 or 4 days, but I get an intensely itchy injection site reaction so don't want to increase these to two a week.

Speak to your provider, and if they are decent, will be able to advise the best thing to do. They will be more aware of the half life of the medicine and how the concentration builds in your system and how regularly taking more frequently will increase the concentration to higher levels, they should also take into account your side effects, weight loss to date etc.

My suppression, some weeks, disappears towards the end of the week, but I still keep within my weekly calorie deficit because it is stronger at the beginning. I actually enjoy being able to eat a bit more freely, but still moderately for a couple of days.

memememe · 20/10/2024 11:58

I'm wondering about doing this for the first month, I took my first inj last Tues eve and have had no side effects or suppression yet, so thought I could do every 5 days inc the bonus dose to get me to the 5mg quicker... then revert back to every 7 days.

TodayandThursday · 22/10/2024 12:29

I take mine very 5-6 days, as I don't get much suppression at all. I've just upped to 5mg and will probably dose on day 6.

I've lost a stone in 5 weeks.

memememe · 22/10/2024 18:24

I took my second dose on w1d6, think I'll do 5 days between the next 2.

I listened to this doctor on YouTube who suffers bad food noise and obesity for years. He lost a lot of weight on Mounjaro. He now takes it every 5 days and it works well for him since he has no side effects, to avoid him slipping back into food noise.

I personally use the 2 hungrier days to change my eating habits & use will power so when I am job free, I'll be able to manage with the hunger. Alot of people regain their weight after coming off so better to focus on changing your habits so you aren't one of them

It may be appropriate depending on pen strength, patient, temporarily, but should be done with discussion from the patients prescriber. Youtube "doctors" don't know the patient and viewers don't know the experience or knowledge of the doctor.

Hi, so when you’re doing the extra clicks, have you already done your 7.5mg then you change needle and jab somewhere else for the extra clicks? I’m currently on 2.5, this is my last week before going onto 5mg, first week suppression was great, now I feel that it’s lasting 3 days max and then fading so I know I’m ready to go up I’m just nervous at jumping straight in at 5mg, I would rather build up to it x

MananaPenelope · 10/05/2025 07:19

I'm now up to 3mg and I am injecting every 6 days.

I don't seem to be able to tolerate more than 3mg without hideous side effects, bone tired, horrible acid reflux and just feeling dreadful. 3mg works for me. I'm counting clicks on a 5mg pen and throwing the excess away when I get to the date cut off.

Icebreakhell · 10/05/2025 07:23

I wouldn’t take it other than as prescribed. These drugs are not without risk of serious side effects. I was feeling quite confident and keen to get to a dose increase when on week 4 of the smallest dose I developed horrendous diarrhoea and indigestion lasting several days. I’m now very nervous about even continuing. Most people are fine but the dosing schedule is there for a reason.

You are nervous about following a prescription medication’s schedule properly but less nervous about messing around with it and changing needles and giving yourself an extra injection instead?
